With everyone running scared about the correction/impending doom/zombie apocalypse...

Sometimes we forget that property is for... well...living in.

I thought it might be nice to start a thread on your dream home...you know to kindle those feelings that got us all so worked up about property in the first place.

    The rules are as follows...

    - Post a place that you can safely buy as a home and that fits in with your current life/work/family etc. Keep it local. No pie in the sky stuff here.

    - Choose a place based purely on heart. It doesn't have to be a bargain....we don't care about the yield or the MD-zoned block. It needs to be something that you really would fork out for because you love it and would be happy to live in it forever.

-Units/townhouses/teepees are welcome to apply. It doesn't have to be super expensive.

    I'll start.

Check out this corrugated iron bundle of magnificence!
    47 Flinders Drive, Stuart Park, NT 0820 - House for Sale #128817238 - realestate.com.au

I would LOVE this! 2k from the CBD, ocean breezes and stunning Troppo architecture. I'd never leave. You'd have to pry me out of there. It's places like this that keep me hooked on property.

    Who's next!? :)

I got lost at the title - 'affordable' and 'dream home' don't fit in the same sentence for me. Not even close.

I'm not looking for a palatial mansion, but I know that I cant afford even a really nice house in my local suburbs.

I know they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder... but damn...
That's a bitsa! Bitsa this, bitsa that. Some of the timberwork reminds me of a theme park construction.
And that hot-tub in the corner of the master bedroom? In Darwin? On floorboard? Won't that just add to the humidity?
    And that kitchen...
    Sorry. I'm out.

Here's our dream home.... plenty of space and plenty of privacy. Backs right onto Cumberland State Forest. We liked it so much we bought it ;)

    I liked your thread!

Sorry, for me place and location is for living and house is just the roof over my head.
I choose place/view over any house (I always think you can knock down and rebuild the house but never can change the view or location.....)

In your dreams, nothing is unaffordable... this is mine. For the location the privacy is second to none. So convenient the kids can walk to school!

Ha! All that bitsa-ness means it'll be as cool as a cucumber. And up here we call them "cold tubs". :)

But yeah...not everyone's cup of tea for sure. Fair call.

    That's kinda the point.

    Very, VERY nice @Morgs .

But not really in the spirit....

Have you seen anything close by that you'd actually buy as a home? Something that's obtainable now and given you pangs of love? A sweaty brow?

A place that probably doesn't fit in with your investment strategy...your head says no but your heart says YES!

I'm not counting myself out of owning that place just yet hammer.... at this point I'm only about 800m away (oh and $35m....:D). There is plenty exciting at a fifth of the cost but gives me motivation to keep working hard....

Since @euro73 shared his, i'm re-sharing mine. I still feel so blessed we could buy this house.
    We bought the house!! :)
This area is really great. I've got the local theatre just up my street, an easy trip to the bus stop and the train station from my home (and the station has so many options), and a running club that meets up just a few hundred metres away. Now @hammer, you mentioned "affordable".... we were able to buy it since we already had a nearly paid off house in the area that we had bought 7 years earlier. High debt reduction!

"Affordable" is completely relative. I'm sure I could own a fabulous home in Adelaide/Brisbane or Hobart/Perth for about a quarter of the price.

D15B5C79-E4EF-475D-A88E-83A69BF12A16.jpeg We’re quite satisfied with what we’ve got at the moment.
Here’s a pic from the backyard.

However, I’d be happy to exchange for a place about 5 mil for something low maintenance somewhere around the Centennial Park area.
