"More than 400,000 people have applied for a border pass to enter Queensland."

I guess that many of us were expecting QLD to become inundated with people when the border was reopened earlier this month...but 400,000...that's mind blowing.

I bet out of 400K only a fraction will actually do anything. Though still a huge number

I assume majority are tourists/ visitors though. In any case, I do hope interstate immigration skyrockets. QLD has so much to offer.

you can (at the moment) only apply for the entry pass if you have a -ve PCR result 72 hours prior to travel - it won’t let you apply unless you answer “yes” to this question - so I expect this number (now being quoted as 470,000 in the press) is an accurate reflection of how many people have travelled from NSW, VIC or ACT since 13th Dec or are about to travel in the next day or so.

however I also expect the vast majority are either visiting family and friends (and don’t forget anyone who travelled from QLD to NSW/VIC/ACT after 13th Dec would need a border pass to come back) or coming to QLD for a holiday. NSW govt moaning in press that 25% of all PCR tests they are doing are “healthy tourists”.

I think this has been now changed to rapid antigen test . Although I am sure people will panic buy those like toilet paper . Aussie public are morons

They’re allowed to moan. Can tell you I waited in line for 5 hours in Manly, NSW. In that time I met and spoke to a lot of people. All Qld residents in the same boat- visiting loved ones and just wanting to return home. If I’d been a NSW resident and genuinely sick, no way I’d be joining that queue. Very happy to see the rapid tests are now accepted for healthy travellers. Much better use of resources.

Surely this can’t be right , a block of say 900m2 has never sold in Oxley for more than $1.2m?
