Including property, cash, shares and super, my share is around $700k at 44. Of course if I sold the property, some would be lost in sales costs and tax. Something interesting is the all my shares of property are in development sites and if both were fully developed my share would be over $1 mill. I am an unrealised millionare! :)

When you are married you merge into one.

The reason I say that is because to get where you are as a married couple (with kids) takes both folks - even if wife isn't a wage earning worker.

The only variation to this is yer "Jeffrey Edelsten" type marriages.

    Who said gold digger?

I remembered I set this up to do some tracking a while ago. Thought I'd update and share.

I've leave it up to your imagination as to what the y-axis intervals are ;)

Well, we were trucking along nicely until the last month, a combination of the main drains in IP2 collapsing, the shower in IP1 ******** itself, the shower in IP2 popping it's tiles showing the rotted walls behind, the electrics in our PPOR being condemned by United Energy and being cut-off until we re-wired, the front deck (and posts holding up the roof) of the PPOR collapsing to rot, plus the associated heritage permit/building permit and owner-builders licenses now required to we can build a replacement deck, plus the new kitchen that was about to be ordered for the PPOR, plus finding out our Great Dane had bone cancer, (he's now down to three legs and half way through chemo), has wiped about 15% of our net worth out in a little over 6 weeks. Oh, and the PPOR garage roof crapped it too and needed re-sheeting. Literally, all of the above is in the last 6-8 weeks.

Funnily enough, I was about to start a thread about the importance of a good cash buffer!

I did the same as @Steven Ryan and started tracking in March 2013. Our position then was $248k (including super etc, basically including every cent of asset we had), that's each and there's two of us.

At the time we had one IP in the UK, (by default, it was our old PPOR that we kept when we moved to Aus in 2007).

Thanks mainly to buying 2 medians in West Sydney in 2013 plus whomping a fair chunk extra into super each month, (Emma gets an extra 2% from her employer if she contributes an extra 3%) has gotten us to the current level of $444k each.

That's about 1.8x increase in a little over 2 years?

Tantalizingly close to that first $1m for both of us combined.

I don't think I will post any information here or on these types of threads. You get people curious and supportive and then you get people saying you are using "telephone numbers" and accusing some of having a "humble brag".

Seems whatever you do, you cannot win :(.

There'll probably be a bit of that so you're welcome simply to vote anonymously, or not at all :)

I think it's good to discuss what we're comfortable with.

If I wasn't open about money and if I didn't discover others who were the same, I'd have had NO idea what was possible for me financially and have set my sights very low indeed.

I find all this stuff very insightful, and some, incredibly inspiring :D

I get what you are saying, but often these threads turn in a pi$$ing competition.

We are just trying to encourage our youngest to get into the market before Brisbane prices make it out of his reach. I've earmarked a few threads that tap into this to send to him in the hope that something "clicks". Funny thing is we went to two inspections last night and he wanted his older brother and his partner to come along to see what they think, if it is a good buy.

Hello!!! I've done the research, and I also found the older brother's first place. I'm the driving force (property-wise) in the family, have done this for a long time, love the hunt, love sniffing out a gem among the rough, but he wants his brother to come along :(. Had to have a quiet chuckle, not offended. I think he senses a "push" from me and wanted the opinion of someone less inclined to want him to buy "just anything" - not that I'm doing that at all.

Older brother did come along, loved the place, said it was a great idea... contract signed ;).

Just waiting now to see if it comes together.
