lol not content with a 15% Asian tax (ok.....supposedly any foreigner.....but we all know it was an anti-china tax) Vancouver have stepped up to the plate yet again......."empty home tax"

Vancouver slaps $10,000 a year tax on empty homes. Lie about it and it’s $10,000 a day
Want to keep your million-dollar luxury pad in Vancouver empty? Get ready to pay $10,000 (US$7,450) annually in extra taxes. Lie about it? That’ll be $10,000 a day in fines

As usual, the idea is "good" ...how they implement is another matter...

Think get friends /relatives to turn on power/water now and then....

I don't agree. What about the rights of private property? Tenants can be a pain, tenancy laws and tax laws can be a pain. I could see why some would want to leave empty.

And always a happy choice for gov to slap on taxes.

There are literally hundreds of apartments in the bay that are empty, not surprised they have done it.
