For me, there are only two things keeping me in Sydney:
    1. My job is better than is offered in Brisbane
    2. My parents are 10mins from me and are intent on staying in Sydney until death.

Otherwise I'd move to Brisbane tomorrow and live it up.

Currently on holiday on the Gold Coast. So good.

True. But I in terms for future capital gains, buying now in Sydney is definitely not a smart move. In current cycle Briabane and especially Gold Coast will produce much better returns (let alone downside risk) over the next 5 years.

Sydney is easily the best city in Australia by a long shot. Go Sydney!

I always wanted to move to a quite area and a slower workplace and I was close to a move a number of times but the partner's job and her future is going well so hard to justify the move. To be fair the work is here for the majority of people but for me moving down to Canberra is a sound move which will happen in the near future unless the partner receives another promotion which makes it hard to once again justify the move.

    Best is relative and subjective.

But from a investment valuation perspective Sydney is far far far from best right now.

I hear this a lot, and after doing my own research, I have really begun to question this notion.

I would pay a lot to buy if we didn't already own our home *cough* shack *cough* in Sydney. Though we are on the outskirts to afford it.

Family is predominantly here, I love my job and there wouldn't be that many similar things away, friends are here and I just like Sydney - despite all its crap - more than other cities/countries I have lived in.

That's because Sydney is thr ONLY city in Australia. Not even Melbourne can match.
I am posting from changi intl airport in sg and can attest that the entire airport is the size of Brisbane and Adelaide combined :)

I was umming and ahhhing on selling 1 more in Sydney.
But with so many people still keen to buy, based on all these responses sounds like I should just hold.

If there was an asset that I really wanted to get into and promised more than further Sydney property CG then I would sell... but I certainly wouldn't sell out of fear.

I am getting a lot of mixed economic data on Brisbane as a whole. In an economic downturn, Brisbane would seem to be no more resilient than Sydney. A lot of the property there has been purchased with leverage as investments.

I am not convinced about Brisbane's economic prospects.
