I am interested on how they view us.

...... its not difficult, but its a drop in the ocean this is the problem. What are we actually achieving by boycotting Chinese goods?

I'm not sure that that's how the man in the street view us. It's all propaganda from the CCP telling people what they SHOULD think. Some of them actually have a mind of their own.

I think it's a very poor strategy to rely so heavily on China. All essential goods should be made in Australia. Just look what happened when we needed PPE, China sent a load back home to China and we were left with a shortage.

It's not how the Chinese people view us ... it's how the state government would "like them" to view us

The local area investment in technology and infrastructure is simply a continuation of their Belt and Road policy ... surreptitiously binding lesser economies to dependence and obligation to China

As for not buying Chinese ... significant and purposeful change starts from the ground up (not from legislation down). We, as private citizens, can only do what we have power to do

Correct! And I, as a private citizen have made the choice to NOT buy Chinese made products where I can find an alternative.

Poor strategy to also not diversify and just rely on mining/natural resources

    Just being Devils advocate here.......

What recently killed auto manufacturing in Oz, holden/ford?

Why are Aussie companies manufacturing/outsourcing in other countries?

Until our Govt addresses this we wont be competitive

..... no one can argue with this.......everyone has a choice

Have a Read - the thread on ‘what new bed’

No one gave a rats that Koala mattresses (Oz comp) manufactures in China. In fact .... why even raise this fact????

Pretty much sums up how people react when it comes to spending their hard earned money

Well, I can't keep up to date with every thread, so can't comment on whether they were aware that they've taken manufacturing to China or not.

I'll be buying new mattresses when we move. They won't be Koala.

Very hard to avoid in some fields.

Example: Who is accessing propertychat using no Chinese made equipment on the segments they have control over?
    • internet router
    • laptop/pc
    • monitors
    • peripherals including mouse, keyboard, printers
    • anything Apple
    • headsets/headphones/speakers
Crazy thing is even Taiwanese companies like Asus get most of their stuff made in China....

l dunno, it might not even mean cutting profits we just haven't bothered looking too far in the past. l reckon plenty of countries will be more than happy to supply any China rubbish diet we've been on though. Be such a nice change for this place.

As I mentioned before, countries like the US are bringing manufacturing back onshore as automation becomes cheaper and "smarter". Therefore little, to no, wages cost

Only a matter of time before Australia follows suit ... but we have to manufacture what people actually want to buy, which was the downfall of the car industry. If they were making SUVs and small hatchbacks ... with a view towards hybrid or electric, ... they'd still be in business. No one wanted to buy a dated and useless sedans

That's why companies are moving to automation. Where an entire 10,000sqm factory can be run by two guys per shift - 3 shifts - 24 hour production

Bringing back manufacturing is "not" bringing back manufacturing jobs
