Thermal curtains are great at night - but during the day, @Gockie wants her winter sun.

The article isn't exactly unbiased - it's from the seller of an alternative product. But it does raise some good points.

@Gockie isn't exactly breaking the bank with her solution. The retrofit double glazing the people from this article sell may be a good solution if the film doesn't work.

Last two builds I've put in e glass ... massive difference in winter and summer, compared to plain glass, although the huge picture windows could probably, reluctantly do with a winter curtain too

    True.

But, if you got the dosh, I'd vote for comfort over the money, go the whole hog, rip out the windows and frames and replace with double glazing. Not all would be in that situation though.

Gotta do what you can within your financial limits.

E glass (which I investigated after a previous post of yours) doesn't have quite the same transparency or effectiveness. We chose to go with the full double glazing solution.

Double glazing would have an added noise reduction too which I understand depends on the air gap between the panes. Having the outside pane of laminated glass also assists I've been informed. Makes it harder to break as well.

That's probably a worthwhile aspect. Where we're going, at times, there is a deafening noise from cicadas and/or frogs. Not much traffic noise though.

Yep - next build I'll probably got the double glazing for picture windows
