Definitely feeling the pain --our stocks are doing very poorly. Just staying the course and continuing to DCA.

Perhaps rather than focusing on 'our stocks are doing poorly', recognise that next time you DCA you will likely have purchased more stocks for the same amount of money, thus (hopefully) more return on the same amount of money invested come dividend time.

My daughter would disagree with you on the latter aspect of your post.

The more appropriate and inclusive term is "ice in the veins."

It is difficult for some when they indulge in constant market watching @monk. Every time there is a hiccup out they come despite:

“If you have trouble imagining a 20% loss in the stock market, you shouldn’t be in stocks*.”

    -John Bogle

    or

"Nathan Rothschild, a 19th-century British financier and member of the Rothschild banking family, is credited with saying that "the time to buy is when there's blood in the streets." He was supposed to have also said as an addendum to it "even if it's your own" but that has never been verified.

So if no cash to buy, the concept of "Don't look, Don't touch" could be the next best thing.

*The 20% was used as an example not as a firm amount. Markets and individual shares can drop even further than that.

Just check a graph of the stockmarket over the last 100 yrs. & note that overall it has risen to ever greater highs, but yes, in the early days of investing it takes a bit to get your head around this.

    Yes I know this

I would rather be buying when there is a severe correction. There is no control regardless but…… its kind of like property, never buy at peak

Most of my non ppty investments ars in aus super balanced. been maximising payments for ages. The last 10 years has given 10pct pa growth. Thats huge, but i guess it includes a lot of post gfc crash recovery, so the prev 5 tears wpuld have been crap. Tbh, if it returns 5pct pa in the next 10 years i will be happy. Market inflated by money printing basically, needs a big blow off.

Exercising choice is what I'd call it. If that is how they wish to approach it, and assuming they are fully aware of the potential risks, go for it if they want. If they make a motza OK by me but by the same token I will not be shedding a tear if they go broke.
