taking the example of syd, unlikely - a good amount of inventory will come to the market and the overhang would last a while which might depress prices - happened in Syd, Atlanta & Athens.

Olympics will mean Brissy and SEQ are as important as Syd Melb as international cities. Impact will be something else

Also there’s going to be lots of infrastructure spend. The government said we had 85% of what we need but that’s a lie. I knew it the moment they said it. They told the IOC what they wanted to hear...happens with every single bid. No way we only have 15% left to build! I expect a huge increase in infra spend.

liable to be 'no jab , no go

has all the earmarks of being a dud

the Olympics were unattractive viewing via TV/cable for me well over a decade ago , i would rather watch the Paralympics and just normal lawn bowls

BESIDES look at Brisbane ( QLD ) virus policy would you really want to travel to a potential detention facility ( at less than 24 hours notice ) ??

its 11 years away...COVID will most likely be a distant memory, and the government will have changed several times.

liable to be the gift that keeps on giving

Pfizer is telling investors 3 monthly boosters and one British Lord is predicting another 10 years on this

BTW if this is just a once in a 100 year event , why bother with vaccine passports ???

it would be over before the passports could be standardized and regulated

most major parties are two faces of the same coin , and a MAJOR change would probably stop the Olympics for decades

BTW how are the Tokyo Olympics going , would you invest cash after that

now in 11 years i might be a distant memory but i doubt every investor will forget this mess

Short term oversupply issues I reckon as developers build to try and capitalize.
Long term all depends on what infrastructure and amenities they build to support it and how useable this becomes.

would be very tempted to be a tax exile

if the place is worth a holiday trip it is worth staying longer term

Assuming we get past it (which I think we will), I honestly believe it'll be a distant memory even as quickly as 12 months after.

I remember during the height of the bush fires, I knew people that were livid about how Scomo handled it (livid, not just angry...I'm talking about absolutely over the top livid), I told them within 3 months you will have forgotten about it and won't even be the slightest bit perturbed when I bring it up. Sure enough I've tried to force it in a few conversations since then to bait them but it barely even registers.

Does anyone remember how China promised the WHO to be more transparent about future outbreaks after SARS? Nope.

Does anyone even remember how George Pell got his way out of jail? Nope.

Humans have short memories. We'll be back eating bat sashimi before you know it.

I'd rather no one forgave, really :)

Spreading the worst viral outbreak in 100 years and then prosecuting anyone who dared ask some hard questions - unforgivable.

possibly i should have clarified ... i MAY forgive ( it is NOT automatic )

but yes i agree with you

BTW is it the worst , for instance i have come across several fine people crippled by Polio ( that one is easy to spot )

there at least two former friends that i will never talk to again ( and they didn't even hurt me but what they did DELIBERATELY to others was unforgivable )

I am not waiting another 11 years for Brisbane to boom :)

Olympic will not magically turn Brisbane overnight into an international city like Sydney and Melbourne. Direct economic benefits from an olympic event is a controversial and politically sensitive topic. Australian GDP per capita actually fell the following year of Sydney olympics.

I have said it many times before ... only silver bullet for Brisbane growth is attracting elite tech talent from emerging markets... wealthy immigrant tech elites are the ones driving Sydney economy and house prices!
