Looking at the continued growth of regional (even inner area's) based on the idea of Covid/regional relocation of Victorians furthe north, even NSW residents moving to SE QLD...... I know several people (retired) recently based on the climbing Covid numbers looking to leave temporarily or to relocate/buy further north (Sydney to Sunshine Coast of Qld) !!!! So how long before Dominic Perrottet closes the VIC - NSW border in favor of opening up to Qld for the economic benefits to each state ???? Given the growing numbers in Vic (projected to be over 4,000 covid positive cases per day by the end of October) I can see the VIC--NSW border being closed by 11/10/21 THOUGHTS ????
Perrottet has always been less of a lock up guy than Gladys. I think he will want to ride on the coattails of Gladys good will and keep to the same plan until he sees his polling figures. I don’t think he wants to go down in history as the youngest and shortest lived premier in NSW history.
I doubt it - they expect case numbers to increase significantly (well into the thousands) come Nov/Dec in NSW post reopen. I’m not sure why he would lock out VIC, given this is expected, known and planned for.
I agree with @Car tart If anything, Perrottet is likely to reduce restrictions more quickly than originally planned - although I also think that is unlikely. He certainly won't be locking things down - he is very much in favour of opening up for business as soon as possible.
I would like to think @Car tart is correct I agree, things in NSW may speed up. The conversations had in the last few days has revolved about protecting the new found freedoms in NSW, with the Covid numbers escalating in Vic the only way to preserve this would be to restrict travellers from Vic
Given COVID is going to spread regardless once we open up (which will happen well before we reach covid-zero) - I don't think restricting travellers from Victoria actually benefits us much. Indeed it will actually hurt NSW businesses to restrict travellers. I'm not advocating for no border closures - just describing how I think Perrottet is likely to be thinking. That being said - Victoria is going to get really really bad before it gets better.
He can’t “open up” the border to Qld. It is Qld who has locked the gates. Anyone in Qld can go to NSW any time they want. They just can’t come back very easily (if at all)!
Nope good on him Covid-19 NSW: Dominic Perrottet announces HUGE changes to lockdown freedom roadmap | Daily Mail Online
Wow - talk about a clickbait title. YOU'LL NEVER BELEIVE WHAT PERROTTET DID NEXT! I wouldn't categorise them as huge changes - he's made some tweaks, including the return of some kids to school a week earlier than previously planned. There are no changes for K/1/12 who were all scheduled to return on the 18th anyway. There were some minor tweaks to numbers of visitors and gatherings. The biggest change IMO was to remove the requirement for fully vaccinated people to wear masks in offices once we reach 80% double dose. There was no mention of Victoria in the press conference.
Moving in the right direction, massive imo for the psyche Kids returning to school 18 Oct Limit on home gatherings, weddings, double what was promised scrapped mask rules for office workers A biggie As many as 100 can attend funerals snd weddings
Well the dudes the premier and has 6 kids. I think his wife would have forced his hand on the schools reopening face to face bit
Spot on and it seems he didn't even listen to health advice https://mobile.twitter.com/cokeefe9/status/1446010664456130568
My parent's bailed out of Vic. Applied for a NSW entry permit, hooked up the caravan and drove up and arrived yesterday. Did not get stopped or questioned.......
Didn't say he could open up the border to Qld. But I could see us closing access from Vic to help reduce the spread back into NSW to lower our numbers faster. So closing out Vic may mean that Qld could open up the border to NSW sooner (so Qld doesn't have to worry about border "hoppers" like what happened with the AFL grandfinal with people flying to the NT ....).
