Just wondered among us those who live in a town less than 800 people but out in the sticks.

just looking at the google maps to see places such as Come by chance in NSW ,;)

Do we have anyone here from places such as Brewarrina or Wilcannia???
    What about Hay?

anyone here from outback SA ,? on the Nullabor ,Ceduna ?

outback Queensland Texas ? or out even further? yep there is a town named Texas?

one in Country NSW called Manila too .:D

how do you find living in these places?

i only go to the Country to look at Regional properties but never that "far out "so to speak.
i tend to get scared or fearful and anxious staying in these places .

the ironic thing is most of the Real Estate in these places are expensive.

Just looking at Google maps I never knew Australia had the largest inland Lake in the World being Lake Eyre in South Australia and the road leads to Birdsville..
First time I have heard of Lake Eyre and it looks amazing !!!!!!

Anyone from this forum live there or near there ???

This said.....I have a real problem with country Australia in that a lot of these places are way more expensive than they should be, eg check out the cost of country property in the USA for $400k you can get some absolutely amazing places....in Australia not so much.

Last year I spent five weeks in the outback as a tourist. I doubt I could live in any of those places for any longer than a week, ever. And that is considering the iconic tourist destinations that have five star resorts, such as Yalara in NT.

Resorts such as at Kings Canyon (where the Qantas add with the childrens choir was filmed) and Yalara (near Uluru and Kata Juta) have wifi, solar farms and water treatment centres away from the public's view. Yalara has a hospital, supermarket and other semblances of civilisation. However I was there at the end of a decent wet season when the desert wildflowers were in bloom, the trees and shrubs were green and producing new growth, and there was water to wash with in the showers.

It was an amazing experience to visit but I couldn't live there, ever, probably because I can't stand the heat. I have also been to the Outback in Winter, in fact I was at Lake Eyre in August 1976 when it still had water in it after the 1974 floods. Some phenomenal school trip, hey. I much prefer these places in WInter, although the temperatures drop to minus something at night and still climb into the high 30s for hours on end during the day. In 1974 we crossed the Simpson Desert in two old school buses. When I was a kid there was no such thing as air conditioned vehicles nor tents with sewn-in (snake-proof) floors.

I was waiting for something exciting to happen (big shark maybe)

    Say what?
Largest inland lake in the world? (I’m not sure what you mean by inland lake as by definition a lake is inland... but anyway).
I doubt lake eyre even hits the top 20 when full).

Thee biggest in Australia, only when it's full, which is rarely. It's just salt pan most of the time.

Which means one should take any claims about the lake with a grain of salt.

Back in the 60s it used to get in the news when Donald Campbell used it to break land speed records. The large flat surface made it ideal for driving a car very fast.

Of course, the fastest car in the world now is owned by Elon Musk.

I live in Adelaide (region) but the township I live IN is only 143 people, has no mail delivery to the door, and has a little post office open 1 hour a day and with an honesty box for eggs and fruit locals put there to sell.

    I love country living

That's not the Outback, @DaveM, unless you have red soil and desert-level rainfall. I could definitely live around Adelaide.

I lived in Shark Bay for 3 years - 2.5 hours of gravel rd to get in, 130 people, no phone reception, and groceries trucked up from Geraldton every Thursday.

It was paradise. We loved every minute of our time there.

I lived in swift bay on and off. Only access was by a 2hr sea plane from Broome.
No full time residents. Just a pearl farm. And crocks. Lots of crocks.
That was probably my most remote location. Hard work but loved it.

Careful not to burn your tongue!

I wonder if Darlo has ever poached an egg? Something to ponder.
