    Current plan;
    - 6 months a year in Viet Nam during the Aussie winter
    - 6 months in summer on Central Coast NSW.

The Central Coast apartment is an IP currently.
The Vietnamese villa is currently a vacant block of land.

I'm not sure why retirement was restricted to Australia. A couple of people have mentioned other countries.

There's lots of places I could retire to. But I like cities and my wife likes the country. So we may have to see a lot of the world before we can compromise.

Yep, they used to say South of Rocky, but they've spotted things further South. Agnes Water, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay would be nice...
    Byron is way too touristy.

The only problem up there is Bob is the sand flies, and the price, then if you go back down the 50 klm's too baffle creek, you can buy 40 acre for 75 k,so there is a massive price difference
and the area floods,Noosa would be the place..

Looks like we're retiring to Buffalo Creek, outside Myrtleford. Bought a house with a long settlement to allow us to sell off an ip. Plan still includes extended business trips to NZ.

It's lovely around that area. When we went down I suggested that we stay at Beechworth. My wife thought that there was nothing to ee. Now she wants to retire in the area.

That's like us, only meant to visit for a while. The whole area is so wild though, and beautiful. Planning on lots more activity in the mountains when we settle in 4 months.

Tweed heads area. Close to GC airport and nice surfing beaches.

I was just talking to somebody whose family ljved close to the GC airport. It too her a while to get used to the aircraft noise.

If you retire down here we'll be neighbours! Beechworth was looking gorgeous today with the bright blue sky and autumn colours.

We've sort of reached agreement about where we are going to retire.

My wife will retire to Beechworth, I'll retire to Colombia or Ecuador.

Ha ha, I know how you feel. Maybe you can do half year each place?

As long as it's not winter in Beechworth. I don't like the cold; and I imagine there would be a lot of through traffic then.

My wife does like the winter though. Perhaps for winter, she can stay in Beechworth and I'll stay in Colombia, and then we'll swap for the other six months.

I don't find it cold to be honest. The sun's out most days. You need the wood burner on at night. It's pretty miserable if you have a cold house, otherwise it's fine. My hubby's a ski fan but I reckon we'll head north for the first half of winter and come back for spring skiing.

I love the idea od Forster/Tuncurry.

Sure it is a good 3.5hr drive to Sydney but the lifestyle and amenity is pretty good for retirement. You could do Newcastle in about 75 minutes which has department stores, more amenity, services, breweries, etc. Plus the Hunter valley isn't far away. Climate-wise and beach wise it hits on your goals too.

Not a bad spot, but still pretty gloomy in Winter.

For me, it has to be NZ or Tasmania.
