This is an early thread... but a follow up from thread last year per suggestion from @Azazel :)

Who's doing their tax early this year?

When did you plan to complete your tax last year?
When did you actually do your tax?
When do you plan to do your tax this year?

    Me:
    1. July
    2. Lodged August
    3. July

I think I'm a bit more organised this year... I think.

Ours (including 2 personal (myself + partner), 2 trusts, 1 kid, 2 parents.)

    1. March (of following year)
    2. Lodged April
    3. March

The business ones are started slightly earlier (~Jan) so ours are always last.

    Still not finalised last years...
Should get it done though as it'll be a 6 figure return.

I have a capital gain, so I will not be lodging early.

    >> When did you actually do your tax?
    October.

    >> When do you plan to do your tax this year?
Return will be completed in July for lodgement by 31st of October.

1,2 & 3 Brisbane Show Holiday (Mid August) every year. I have the office to myself so I can spread all the papers out on the boardroom table.

When did you plan to complete your tax last year?
February as we weren't expecting any tax refunds

When did you actually do your tax?
March and we got a refund in our smsf (should have put it in earlier!!!)

When do you plan to do your tax this year?
Away overseas in July and August. So, hopefully September/October as our property portfolio has gone negative this FY (due to latest purchase) and we should both get a nice, big, juicy tax refund. Then we will be off to the casino to invest it!!!!

Accountant has sent Mrs No Mates a reminder for 2014/15 - he knows that if he hassles her it might happen (not too keen - CGT bill on the wind).

This question is affected by whether its a refund or payable. In some cases refunds can be delayed such as NRAS etc

Even if we get motivated and get it to the accountant they don't have to lodge the return so give you the maximum time to prepare to pay.

Slightly off topic but somewhat relevant. How much work/cost is involved in preparing a Tax Variation Form?

    3. AS LATE AS POSSIBLE

I am claiming the tax free thresehold at Job One.. I started Job 2 just before christmas and did not claim the tax free thresehold... I am earning about the same from each role at the moment..Tax is roughly right, but HECS is not being considered... So I will have a 3-4k HECS debt. Oh and IP1 was super positively geared because of the IP2 deposit that was accruing all year.

Did my tax ( well sent it to the accountant and got the refund) last month.

Not happy with myself at all.

Going to be one of the crowd this year - aiming for July 2016.

    2. August after hounding the accountant for company return
    3. July 14 as I'm expecting my workplace to take until last minute to provide my paperwork.
