Only my opinion but I would say no..The same Bankers that were there during the first global "CFC" mach "1" in America are still there and historically as the going out tide always keeps it's course this could well go into a 20% plus downtrend and if it does to pick each one a individual basis would be almost impossible..imho..

All the media will do is play this like it's the end of the world ,stock market paid influencers will tell you I told you so on their Instagram accounts and try and exploit the downturn ..

MQG worth a look. Company results overlooked in the market melee yesterday. 10% profit upgrade announced:
    • "Accordingly, the Group’s result for FY18 is currently expected to be up approximately 10% on FY17"
See last two announcements. You can find them here:

    Macquarie Group Limited

Dividends not fully-franked. Dividend history chart at above link.

Bell Potter price target on Macquarie Group is $109.50 but I bought it for a long-term hold in my super for the dividends ( again not fully franked ). Dividends have steadily risen from $1.50 in 2012 through $2.64, $3.40, $4.22, $5.08 and then $5.79 in 2017. I picked up a parcel today at $101.15 per share. Current gross yield is 5.91%.

MQG is a bit different to the big 4 because of some investment focus on infrastrucure and energy.

From Markets Live: Calm after the storm

    11:11am

Bell Potter thought yesterday was the time to buy Macquarie Group shares, or as it told clients: "a great opportunity to invest in this cash and growth story".

The broker has a "buy" recommendation on the shares and a $109.50 price target.

Macquarie upgraded its guidance on Tuesday, and based on reported net profit of $2.2 billion in 2017, the revised guidance implies $2.4 billion in 2018 which appears to be consistent with consensus. The stock rebounded to $101.05.

Big drop in IVC today following profit/div/update release.
This one has been referred to as an emerging "dividend aristocrat"

I think this fits into this thread... I bought VLA for $1.21 almost a year ago... It then peaked at $1.27... and slid down from there and was at $0.67 yesterday. The announcement came out that they were being bought out at $1.75 per share, so this happened:
    upload_2018-2-22_16-10-4.png

My question is, if it is known that they will be bought for $1.75, why is the price sitting at $1.69? Would you buy at $1.69 now, knowing you will make 6c per share at least?

    Cheers,
    Inertia.

It's a local research team (Newcastle) - working on using a virus to attack cancer. Have known about them for a while - they work out of HMRI here, which gets a lot of coverage.

    Cheers,

On my watch list and came up in research prior to setting up a portfolio for my mum.
In the end I decided to bias towards higher div yields as she relies on the income.

@inertia the premium is to take into account the risk that the takeover offer may not proceed.

I seriously love that graph - it looks like someone has tried to draw a couple of straight blue lines, freehand, with a mouse, in Microsoft Paint :D

Or the deal is knocked back and Mersk offer $2.35 but unlikely since Lepu supported the takeover.

I bought in @ .81 and so was running at a loss so this was a nice surprise at 11am.

    FTR - I cashed in @ $1.69.

Have a look at AWE, CERCG first offered 75c then followed by Mitsui at 95c. AWE is now trading
between 96c to 97c, so the market believes there might be a third buyer line up or Mitsui increase the offer.

I hold AWE averaged at 81c.

The price action has been a bit disappointing over the last few months, but the company has been making nice progress.
Let's see where we're at in 6+months. These things take time.
