Hi Austing, do you still reinvest the dividends every year back into the lic's? I thought you mentioned you stopped buying them in other post.

Pretty sure @austing takes the dividends as cash to fund his retirement, but because they don't spend all the cash each year, he has spare funds to redeploy to purchase more stock when he sees value. Correct?

Yep think that's right. I think he said he hasn't bought more lic's in about 2 years. Wondering if you have lots of excess cash, where you would put it till the time is right to buy more again.

Correct. Actually I've never used DRP in my life. Even prior to retirement I preferred to receive the cash dividend, pool then reinvest when / where I thought there was best value. If my memory is correct I think Thornhill did the same.

Not for one minute suggesting this is the best approach but just what I like to do. Plus record keeping for DRP (cost base etc for future potential CGT) can be a nuisance.

No, I said there have been times where I haven't purchased anything for around two years. Typically after a crash buying spree where I then focused on repaying debt and rebuilding cash buffers. I have purchased in the last six months eg WHF SPP, FGG and a few other things. But since Trump's election I haven't been interested in buying anything. Being retired and having reached our income goals I'm becoming more conservative and only buying mostly when something has bargain written all over it. Also cash will likely be a greater percentage of our portfolio as we age.

Excess cash is generally deposited in an online high interest account such as Ubank. I like easy access (no term deposits) so when opportunities arise or liquidity is needed to find Lifestyle the cash is available immediately. At this stage of our life shares are for income and cash for opportunity and liquidity.

I think BAT holders should shut their eyes for a month.

Not by the volume that's going through, who ever bought 3,000,000 for 0.08 cents shows no signs of cowardice ,or put in the wrong code number..

Do you take it as a sign someone knows something? Or someone is having a gamble?

I bought my holding in TRS when it was 8.25 in Nov 14. Hopefully it won't fall further. Have not been following it though.

I topped up my holdings in SOL during the week @ 15.51, although they were much much cheaper in November. Periodically topping up into this one.

Is there a management fee for SOL? Tried looking but couldn't find anything.

I'm hoping NUH is cheap and not for long as I have a sizeable "gamble".

None of the ETFs, LICs are doing anything for me at the moment, so playing elsewhere.

SOL isn't an LIC so you won't find the information like an LIC. You will have to read the company reports if you want to see it's inner workings
