I think you mean arsenic. It's ok though it hasn't got the reputation of evil asbestos :D

Depends on setting . I built this wall out front ( black mortar needs tidying), block and sleeper walls out back.

Unseen behind the rock wall is a brick wall that the rocks lean against. All under 1m so council dont get interested.

Personally, being an ex eastern stater I prefer besser blocks (like Datto said) however they seem to prefer and use allot of this in WA, prob cheaper (guessing the properties in QLD so found a local Co for ya)

My block of land has a tiny little brick retaining wall out the front. I think it looks pretty nice.

    That's a heck of a wall.
Do you have to maintain it yourself or is it council?

Land hasn't settled yet and I haven't got it surveyed so I don't know if its actually on my land or council land. The road was there in 1862 so the wall would have to be very old so I doubt it is going anywhere.

I'm going to have major difficulty resisting putting a mural on it

Wow, that's pretty old. How can you tell what sort of building techniques they used?

Probably a good idea before someone else does a really crap graffiti effort.

Likely lashes with a "cat o nine tails' back then.
As with most things these days "don't make-em like they used to", my ~20yr old retaining wall already needs replacing.

I like the concrete sleepers which look like wood. More expensive but look amazing!

    Doesn't look to bad.
But more expensive? Usually the point of the imitation stuff is that it's cheaper?

In this case probably stronger than cheaper.

Its more the look of sleepers they are achieving with the strength of concrete. So, you can have your cake and eat it too! :)

any chance you can split it into two retaining walls, check the regs but could you have one less than 600mm high and then another on top of it maybe 1m back?

That award winning picture captured the @datto in its natural habitat nicely.
