This thread is kind of hilarious for someone from Perth... I remember going down to Docklands in 2012 and thinking how vibrant it was in comparison to Perth. Admittedly it's dead and soulless compared to Melbourne CDB or St Kilda but they're both pretty amazing in that regard. It may also have been that it was GF weekend so a bit busier than usual.

One of the positives of Perth's ghost town vibe is that it always makes other cities feel more exciting than they are :)

I remember attending a rave party at the docklands in the mid 90s. Went for a walk and thought it was an odd sort of setup but dismissed it as my mental state my have had a part to play :D

I long for that "ghostown vibe" at my place. We have 4 rugrats under 10 and they are a noisy lot.

    Thats one word for it.

My amazing wife does most of the heavy lifting. I just cough up the cash and go on fun filled adventures with them to give her a break.

Given you cannot just knock down buildings, maybe local council need to fill part of Docklands' bay and convert it to parks with trees. Would this help?

I'm biased, but - winter cold and winds apart - I love living in Docklands precisely because I have so much within a five minute walk: four trams, Southern Cross station, Skybus, supermarket, GP, post office, library and countless eateries. Need milk or a paper? - just go downstairs. For my first four years here I didn't own a car - used Flexicar on the rare occasions I needed one. Total contrast to when I used to visit a friend in the eastern suburbs and almost anything involved getting the car out. As a property investment it's been a big miss though - next to no change in nine years.

With all due respect, most of those apartmens on the Newquay/Caravel side I feel are not very nice. The apartments with water views all face south - not ideal.

I personally feel the Victoria Harbour or the Mirvac Lorimer St developments much more desirable. This would be better to live in.

I wonder what the fallout in Docklands and Southbank will be from all the cladding issues and regulation that's happening?

Plane loads of internationals knocking on doors offering to replace the cladding for cash?

Sarcastic but it wouldn't surprise me.
