    Hi guys,

So everyone here is trying to make money through investing.
I am curious to see what you guys spend your money on once the investing starts paying off.
Do you get yourself a new car every few years? Maybe indulge in some nice overseas holidays once in a while? Get some new toys (entertainment system? Jewellery for the girls? Watches? Bags n shoes?) ? Go eat out at nice restaurants? Enjoy some premium wine/spirits? Spend on some hobby gear?

Here I am talking about actually "spending" your money not re-investing it or paying down debt etc. At the end of the day that's the goal of investing: putting in place a system that generates income that you can then spend as you wish.

For us it would probably have to be taking some overseas holidays every few years. Hopefully we can do it more frequently in years to come.

It replaces the $ from a J.O.B. so that I have TIME to do what I want.....

I've chosen to be satisfied with a lower passive income that covers modest living & to work P/T to fund my wants. The alternative would've been to keep working flat out until all my wants could be funded too but then I wouldn't have TIME until much later.... I prefer to have the extra 20+ yrs of semi retirement. Probably not the materialistic answer you're seeking.

    Each to their own.

In 20+ years you could be dead or otherwise unable to enjoy the lifestyle that you've worked to achieve.

Yes very good point. Time is certainly the most precious resource of all.
For those who choose time over other things, how do you employ your time?
Could be simply spending more time with the kids and family or going fishing? Volunteering? Travelling on the cheap?

Interested to see what people choose to do with as a result of their investing journey.

Boats, dive gear, boats, fishing gear, boats, car stuff (for towing the boats) fishing/diving trips, oh, and I think I forgot to mention boats.

We also spend a lot traveling. Probably close to 30% of our annual spend is international travel. We are trying to reduce this as we are all a bit tired of the travel... and it will free up some $ to spend on boats.

Yeah. Or the one I prefer is 'better organize another thousand'

It's true and false. If used regularly they are an exceptionally cheap form of entertainment. However they make hugely expensive lawn ornaments if not used.

At least, that is what I continue to try and convince mrs Blacky of.

I'm not there yet but apart from necessities (i.e. replacing my income so I don't need to work), I'd love to spend on experiences
    - overseas travel for holiday and visiting friends and some family
    - eating out with friends/ family
    - car every several years maybe, but mainly out of necessity
    - trying new stuff - shark diving, learning how to surf, target shooting, hobby gears yes, etc

Never really inclined to buy 'stuff' unless for hobby or necessity.

Even if I was in a position to retire, I wouldn't do it because I enjoy the challenge of learning and being in a routine. I think the joy of travelling and constant holidays may wear out very soon for me. I may decide to keep on learning and be a serial menace in lectures.

We are quite busy with work, but not much longer hopefully.
Don't spend much at all relative to our incomes.
Set up a home theater a few years ago for about 20k.
Got a boat a couple years ago that's currently our if action, but will use it more frequently later this year.
Usually take an annual holiday at Christmas.

Just before Christmas, had an impulse to upgrade my car and bought this toy on Christmas Eve, still love it every day too.

Started to use the money by cutting down on work when I reached 60 and using the time, and money, for more travel.

Not really interested in toys, or cars. I did buy a new i30 last year with the intention of keeping it until I am too old to drive. Only bought it because we were getting fed up of lifting our grandaughter out of the back of the Getz.

    1. Health (healthy food, chiropractor etc)
    2. Experiences (6 week overseas holiday every winter)
    3. The bare essentials (rent, clothes, fuel etc)

    Invest the rest.
