Whar would you do to modernise this fascade

I would not pressure clean the roof. I love the roof as it is. Our son had to have his tiles removed and trusses replaced, and he had the old lichen covered tiles put back on so they are visible from the street. His house has a transverse gable (like yours) and the back of the house was extended and they didn't have enough tiles to use the old ones, so the back of the roof has new ones. Nobody will ever, ever see the back and front at the same time (except maybe in a hot air balloon).

Those lichen covered tiles give the house charm, grace and character. And I'd keep the brick too. It suits the style of the house. You may not like them, but plenty of people will.

I would replace or paint that side fence and I also would remove the railing (as you already plan to do) but I would add a step at the front so the step is L-shaped. That gives a wider step for taking furniture in and out and adds some pizzaz.

I also like the idea of adding some very dark grey, or black trims. Black and tan always look classy. You could paint the window trims black or leave them stark white to complement the black.

I like your ideas. Do you have any links to pics of houses with this colour palette you have in mind? My problem is that I struggle to envisage with what the paint will contrast like against the brick. I have driven around the suburb and there are lots of the same brick but everyone has kept them white, so I have no ideas to copy!

You could always get one of the Dulux colour consultants to visit if you are really stuck with the colour.

Costs about $175 for an hour's co sultan ion on site - but you get a voucher for $1 a liter off Dulux paint up to $100.

For something like this, it might be overkill, but still..

yeah overkill for this property- in a better suburb would definitely be worth it but here not so much. I think I'll stick to white and play it safe

Will have a half finished progress pic for you all tomorrow- just gardening tomorrow painting window frames next weekend. Hand rail is gone!
