it happens elsewhere but this case was particularly bad. It is no surprise that there are more of this type of incidents in lower social economic areas

Happened in Docklands, Altona and many other places today. No place in Melbourne is immune sadly and the bail laws are atrocious. If someone wrecks someone else's property they should be locked up... the state government hasn't learned and it will cost them the upcoming election.

    Does it?
The best city in the world 7 years in a row.
Obviously Melbourne must be better than Sydney.

Melbourne CBD and Brighton foreshore are public areas so crime is to be expected (e.g. Moomba incident etc.). But riot police in a suburban street is not as common or expected

Bringing it back to more of an investment / property thread - AirBnB - property managers have always said this could happen. Owners who think they'll make it rich by having nightly hotel like rent without having to worry about long term tenants need to take note. As they allow access to people through AirBnB - our office is currently debating whether or not insurance would cover the damage. Landlord insurance is for rented properties and usually does not include the short term stays - wonder if the owners of these past few properties (Werribee, Altona, St Kilda) had covered themselves...

Note to investors - always have insurance!!!

AirBnB covers the property up to $1 million so should be fine.

On a more positive note... some decent returns in a year.... and the price still doesn't look too bad.

Positive for the owner who flipped it and those who got into the market 12 months + ago for sure. I'm still amazed at the people spending this type of money on some of these houses. It will be interesting to see how much further it can go! Me personally though, I'd be spending my money elsewhere right now.

Good to know about airbnb insurance. Learn something new every day.

It's not a huge amount given they can still get a 3.5% yield + some decent cap gains. Only 35-40 mins from the city at peak time by train.

The transaction in 2016 seems suspect. Whether it was a related party transfer, an inheritance, divorce etc. 205K price seems more a price for standalone house in country Victoria e.g. Portland. Also that transaction has no agent listed. I know the markets gone up but thats my 2c

Yep, it likely was a transfer but still above what the estate agent was asking at $420k and sold in 8 days.
