Apparently the pollsters got it wrong because people said they would vote for Hilary as they were to embarrassed to say they were actually voting for the Don.

You can't stump the trump! All hail emperor Trump!

That doesn't mean anything really. He's telling Australia to not get cosy with America but someone else. really? that's his assessment? he will probably go write a book about what went wrong with 2016.

Well..I wasn't expecting that... gotta respect the will of the people.
As mentioned in another post..a democracy is only as good as it's people.

They deserve what they are going to get. A protest vote (if that is what it was) has its risks. And the ramifications could spread far and wide.

Be careful what you wish for (and all that).

Maybe he will make huge changes for the best, but I doubt it.

It will be ironic.. because the people who will suffer the most under trump will be the ones who got him in...the rust belt manufacturing etc..eg with his trade policies these will be the ones to feel it the most...
How ironic will that be..the fat cats in NYC etc (who likely voted democrats) will still be driving around in luxury Mercedes in 4 years.. you bet.

It will be interesting to see what role Pence will take in the new administration. There has been speculation that Trump would leave a lot of the day to day work to Pence, or even to hand over power at some stage. Trump will still have his companies to run- I doubt that he could really hand it over to his children as he says he will. And I doubt that he could make decisions completely separated from his corporate interests.

Pence may be a far more balanced person than Trump, somebody with far fewer personal flaws and prejudices. As a strong Catholic though he is strongly anti abortion and anti gay.

I suspect you are right. The people suffering under Obama could very well be worse off under Trump. But then with Clinton promising more of the same as Obama, you can't blame those people who are hurting under Obama to vote for something different. The only hope for them is the the House and the Senate moderate Trumps policies somewhat. Closing America's borders to immigrants and trade won't benefit anyone.

    Almost certainly.

Wonder if those who voted him in, on the call to job protectionism with the promise of a 45% tariff, have done the math and realised that virtually everything from shoes, to clothes, to white goods, to homewares, to some foods (and everything else made in China) will now cost them 50% more ... bet they don't get a 50% pay rise to compensation

Maybe it will just kill consumption, people will make do with what they already own or buy secondhand. That wouldn't be a bad thing for the environment?

Or maybe they'll travel overseas to buy too - and realise that the world outside the US is different....
