Given his background, I wouldn't be surprised to see an increase in consumer confidence when Turnbull topples Abbott.
I'm guessing that this will be a short to medium term effect, but it could still have implications for us as investors.

The only bad news to come out of this is that Turnbull is going to be much harder to beat at the next election than Abbott.

The empathetic Dutton is going to be gone with him as well as Hockey, aka Sancho Panza.

In one way, it's a pity that this is happening to Tony so shortly after one of the really good things he's done, in increasing the refugee quota.

Next, it will be up to the ALP to find an effective leader. I'm not a Shorten fan, and not an Albo fan either. I don't know what alternatives they have otherwise.

Some might say that Malcolm is only doing to Tony what Tony has been doing to the country.

If Turnbull wins, he's guaranteed to lose the election. No one in the Liberal base want Turnbull. He is only popular with those who don't vote for him (Labor/left)

Who would a Lib vote for if Turnbull was leader then? Would they really vote ALP?

Any one but him. The last time he was leader the base destroyed him, it's how Abbott became leader.

I'm talking about the general public. Sorry, I thought you were too.

If Malcolm was leader of the libs, who would you vote for?

Lib Dems (if there is a candidate), Palmer (if they even exist at the next election) or Independent. Never Labor or Greens. Particularly in my seat, the Labor candidate is a complete sleazebag. I know the Liberal MP. Decent guy. I will vote for him as long as he represents the seat.

The general public will likely vote Labor. The only polled support Turnbull has is from those who do not vote Coalition anyway.

But Abbott is facing the same electoral problems. Hence the move against him.

Look at Baird in NSW - strong support base by actually appealing to a middle ground - even some inner city ALP voting types don't mind him. Only appealing to rusted on members (and the same, if not more so applies to the ALP) means you don't get the swinging voters.

For somebody with a name like Abbott, it could be out of the frying pan, into the friar?

The move against him has nothing to do with so called electoral problems. If it did it would not occur the week before a by-election. This is about Turnbulls ego, it always has been. It also demonstrates to the electorate that they play second fiddle to egos and political maneuverings (now on both sides)

The refugee quota increase seemed to a very reluctant move by Tony, and didn't Turnbull comment favourably early on?

The elections of late seem to be just about voting AGAINST something. How I would like to actually vote FOR something one day...

Vote for the platform not for the person at the top.

If Turnbull wins, there will be no difference in platforms.
