I have to say, the Olympics have totally flown under the radar due to Covid, it starts in a week!

And... it's in an Australia friendly timezone too.
Loads of Sydneysiders are currently not working so they may as well binge on watching guilt free...

I went to the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019, was brilliant. Without COVID would have gone to Tokyo Olympics too. Like you though, it’s fallen right off my radar. Now that the TdF is coming to the end, the Olympics will provide a useful distraction during lockdown!

Not when you're the parent of an athlete!

We spend a lot of time watching races from around the world on YouTube - following our favourite athletes and comparing times and stats.

It's also great hanging out with top athletes and their coaches - just last night while my son was down at Rotary doing a hurdles training session with another kid from their squad, 400m Olympic athlete Bendere Oboya's coach John Quinn was down there with some of his other athletes - including Abdoulie Asim - Abdoulie Asim lived under a bridge after seeking asylum in Australia. He now wants to run at the Olympics (I believe Bendere is currently up in Cairns with the Australian Olympic team at their training camp).

Back when we were allowed to go to Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre for training, we would frequently see track stars like Rohan Browning (100m), Bec Bennett (400m), Alec Diamond (Decathlon) and others there training early on a Sunday morning.

I'll be settling in front of the tv with some sushi to watch it.

And if that ad comes about "we should get some sushi Carol" then I will swear in Japanese. Interesting thing is they don't have the f word in their language.

I wonder whether he already had the virus in him when he lost his first round match to Korda at Wimbledon. It’s been almost 2 weeks since he played. Will be interesting to see how he’s getting on. Novak had Covid last year and now has won all 3 majors. Hope Alex will recover well.

Be interesting to watch. Apparently they'll have artificial/added crowd noise seeing spectators aren't allowed (I think).

I don't see why they wouldn't be required to hotel quarantine? Their risk profile is no different to anyone else returning from OS.

Ahh - here we go - an article from July 9th mentions they will quarantine at Howard Springs.

I can't read the article, but here's the excerpt:

I was thinking more of the movie stars and other celebrities who were allowed to quarantine somewhere else (not in hotels like others are required to).

I imagine quite a few of them will bring the virus home with them.

Was going to post the Olympic flag but then I saw @geoffw beat me to it lol.

Anyway, last night while watching the athletes march in, it got kinda boring/repetitive so about 30 or 40 minutes into it I decided to plug in each country into Google maps as they got announced, in case I ever end up on Millionaire hot seat and get a geography question....

Am enjoying the Olympics, now that they're onto the track and field ... and what blows me away is how many of the top female athletes have had children. Hugely impressed.

Granted - having children should never stop anyone from doing anything they are passionate about - but, from personal experience, I know how childbirth can mess the body in unimagined ways
