And the controls are some of the most medium density friendly anywhere in the state. Much better than your Blacktown, Bankstown, Penrith etc.

Andrew, I'm warming up to the idea of development but I need to find the right property first!

Anywhere within 5kms to the beach will have a massive premium attached.

    Sounds like a plan.

I'll post up details of a couple when I get them lodged.

Thanks everyone. Some of the replies have been relevant :p

Re my financial position, I can comfortably hang on to it and I don't really want to pay the deductible loans off yet.
I had envisaged keeping the unit until such time as I wanted to buy another PPOR, then I'd purchase with a big chunk of cash from my offset and refi/switch security on the deductible loans so they're secured by new PPOR first before selling the current unit.

I'm really just worried about possible detrimental effects from the developments. Worrying about privacy mainly. And it might not be popular with tenants while construction is underway (so maybe I should move out sooner rather than later before they realise).
I hadn't really considered the longer term gentrification effect though, that is interesting.

Maybe I should just take a lesson from Save Our Rail and object to the DA until I get it redesigned the way I want it

    Sorry. Missed the unit part.

Development is happening throughout Newcastle so I think it's a given that where will be some disruption.
