‘If I was a rapist or a murderer, they’d let me out’

Obviously his escape attempts are all almost genius, but check out this line

"Perhaps the most extraordinary was when he memorised a key hanging on a guards belt and was able to replicate it in his cell."

My hats off to him.... and hopefully to be released one day

Hardly a hero, more like an idiot. Initial sentence of 4 years but he acts up, makes escape attempts and it just keeps adding up.

Instead he could have taken a bit of a look at himself, behaved, appealed and probably would have been parolled with only 2 years served.

Given a couple of years with nothing to do, there's so much you could do to improve yourself. I can't imagine that prison time is a picnic, but it doesn't need to entirely be wasted time as well.

hmm, turning a 4 year sentence into 105 year sentence is hardly hero worthy.. The prison guards may be idiots, but would you want to waste your whole life proving a point like that?

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should...

He's probably institutionalised now and doesn't want a life on the outside so makes these attempts to lengthen his term. Once he's escaped I imagine you'd be able to make yourself disappear fairly easily should you want to. My theory at least.
