Is it rude to ask the price?

I have no idea but I have no problem telling you, I mean it will be freely available on many websites within a few weeks anyway :p.

We got it for 884K. The limit we set ourselves for the auction was 887K.

I don't know what the property is "worth" but I have been researching the area for 12 months and we based our personal valuation of it which was 850K and then pumped another 37K on top of it because we loved it.

This is a 30K increase for "emotion"
And 7K to put a random number on the end.

The random number at the end was a strategy I read on this forum as you will beat anyone who sets a hard limit in line with you number excluding the random. I can tell you that this is exactly what would have happened as the bidding went like this:

Some random - 870K and on the market
Lady - 880 <-- right here, without my random 7 on the end, I just lost the auction!!!
    Me - 881
    Lady - 882
    Me - 883
Lady - um ahhhh um ahhhh phone call um ahhhh (at this point my friends whispered in my ear "Congratulation, you bought a house") 883,500
    Me 884 SOLD!!!!!

Her bids were slow and unconfident, mine we loud fast and confident (faked confidence, I was crapping myself behind the calm visage)

I know the place all us PC Gold Coast members are going to be neighbours. You won't regret the Sydney move we did it 5 years ago and have never looked back!

Nice, It seems Mermaid is the place to be ;). Maybe a mini meet up at the bar upstairs in Pac Fair :).

I took John McGraths ranking of it on Sat as a sign that I was making a good decision :).

And who would have thought that my holiday at diamond beach resort in 1996 (it had just opened, I would not recommend it now) would be just a walk away from where I ended up buying 20 years later, this trip in 96 was when i fell in love with the Gold Coast and it's when i told myself I would live there "one day". Since then I have visited pretty much once a year and always left with regret that I did not live there yet :).

@Dan Donoghue Congrats Dan, just saw this you secured something after reading your securing tenants (also congrats). Looks like we both purchased about the same time :)

Well good on you, for me there are too many places I would like to live.

I like visiting the Gold Coast, but would personally pick Bris bayside, only a short drive South or North to some nice spots, but either way, after some dramas, I hope you really enjoy your choice.

I would be chomping at the bit to get straight into it :)

    Nice!!!!

Very good timing in a prime area. Really one of the absoute sweet spots for long term capital growth.

These sorts of places will easily be a mil by bend of next year. It's a very nice position to be in what you have right now, and all the better that you have staked your claim prior to moving up.

Might be worth putting the feelers out at your work.

I was in a very similar situation nearly 4 years ago - living in Melb but with every intent to move to Cairns so we bought the future PPOR with the plan to rent it out till work and life allowed us to move north in a few years.

My GM caught wind that I had bought a property in Cairns and long story short offered to move my job to Cairns where I would work remotely and fly back to Melb every month for a week. Before I knew it our house was off the rental market and we were moving to Cairns much earlier than expected.

    Haven't looked back!

Absolutely true. I almost know no one who moved here from Sydney and then ever considered moving back. In fact most wonder why they didn't move here sooner!

Congrats DD, your place looks shmicko and is undoubtedly one of the best locations in the world to live. I've been living in Thailand, Bali, Philippines and Hong Kong since 2007 but returning to the GC early 2017 so let me know if you need any maintenance done until you make the move -- happy to do it for free (within reason!) as I enjoy being on the tools again.

Can you disclose which agent will be managing it? Please send PM if you prefer not to disclose here. Still waiting for @big max to get back to me :)
