I asked this of some mates over a beer last night.

The first reply ended what could have been a discussion, and we all essentially agreed.

    What do you think?

Can be new or used, try and post ballpark price

Coolest car for the least amount of money - anyone that does not have finance!

If you buy a car as a status symbol then you need to reassess your personal values and have work to do.
If you are wealthy then fine, but too many people are living beyond their means, have 60k cars and wonder why they cannot afford their first house deposit!!

    Depends,
Cool to who? Car guys, women, kids, the general public, 4wd nuts, the jdm or stance scenes? Volvos have a bit of a cult following too...

    You're on the money Brian!

A VT commodore for under 2K. You can screech the wheels in a McDonalds car park and just watch those heads turn lol.

Complement it with a set of air horns to complete any Saturday night! Yeeha!

I drive a Toyota Caldina. Japanese 2ltr AWD turbo wagon. Fast, reliable, different and you can put stuff in it. Pick them up for about 8k. I love it, but the Mrs hates it. Wagons are for salesmen she says.

I know you asked for car, but I have to nominate the Aussie Postie Bike.

They've got a bit of a cult following but you can still pick one up from the auctions, add rego and do a few repairs for under $2K.

They run on the smell of an oily rag (I get about 125 K's from the $5 fuel tank) and never require any real maintenance other than regular oil changes.

    Toyota 86 :)
Gives the thrills without losing your licence.
Its also a car built from ground up, not some random hatchback with a turbo shoved in.

    E55 amg merc, w210.

They are epic cars in every aspect, and awesome bang for buck. It honestly is the best all rounder for a car. Classic looks, very precise/great handling, silky smooth hand built V8 power but still quite decent on fuel and tons of modern day creature comforts. Try and get a 2001 model as they got updated with some nice fruit. I really regretted selling mine, it was so reliable and absolutely bulletproof.

I then got a w211 E55 and it is better, but a fair bit more costly and more complicated. It's a bit less bulletproof then the w210.

If you want a manual then go a BMW e34 or e39 M5. I can vouch for the e34 being a lot of fun and predictable sliding around in the twisties lol. I'm keeping mine as a garage queen and it should hopefully be a good investment, which can't be said about most cars.

    My reply got lost.

    @AndrewTDP - totally agree.

@BKRinvesting - whoever, whats your opinion?

Coolest cheapest car for me is definitely an old merc, I can't narrow down to a model.

Coolest cheapest car of recent times, Chrysler 300C 2008 for about 15K, and they still look gangster.

Blow too much cash, but not ridiculous: BMW 335

    Interim dream car: C63 AMG

Ultimate dream car: the prancing horse, of course.

What about the new postie bikes with fuel injection and electric start! The last time I talked to my postie I firstly had to apologise because my dog nearly ate him and then I checked the new bike out....looks cool.

The old sayings help the recall:

    120Y bother
And whats a 200B? A 180B with twenty more mistakes.
