Sure, it appeared to be a given, but to be fair, there was cause for some optimism.

But now the bad news is on Fox News, so the cause for optimism has declined somewhat.

There are reports elsewhere that the US' early detection system is not up and running properly now.

Always optimistic - but sided with a good dose of cynical reality

Yes, apparently they've "destroyed" the same facility half a dozen times for each negotiation over the decades ... and then they rebuild it in time for the next negotiation.

Both Kim Un and his dad

I think Trump is an unstable maniac, but interestingly I think he was the only chance the world had to actually shock nk out of its complacency because people genuinely believe he could do anything. That was really the only hope we had of nk possibly disarming

Then someone dangled a Nobel peace prize in front of Donald and his ego couldn't resist. He's consequently completely fluffed it and ironically, given his (correct) claims that the USA has been systematically conned by the Kim regimes, he's been taken for more of a ride than any of his predecessors and looks like a bloody fool.

‘Sources say Trump did not withdraw the North Korea sanctions from Thursday, instead he’s canceling a future round of unannounced large scale sanctions expected for next week. It was a major communications failure as a result of his ambiguous tweet’

Chaos in the Whitehouse as usual.

Because - apparently - Trump knows better than his "decades of experience" advisers ... "North Korea fired off some small weapons, which disturbed some of my people, and others, but not me," Mr Trump tweeted in one of his early morning messages.

Clearly the current US administration has failed in respect to North Korea and is just making things worse with its failed summits and praise for the NK dictator. Would be best if they kept a low profile until an US administration that knows what it's doing is in place, but seems unlikely.

... and this folks, is the worst.

North Korea's top US envoy executed: report

"The meeting between Trump and Kim in Hanoi was widely seen as an embarrassing failure, with both parties leaving early.

According to Chosun Ilbo Kim was believed to be carrying out a widespread purge to divert attention from internal turmoil and discontent.

Kim Hyok-chol was investigated and executed at Mirim airport with four foreign ministry officials in March,” an unnamed North Korea source said, according to the Chosun Ilbo, adding that they were charged with spying for the United States."

And yet Trump heaps admiration on, and envies, this despot ... I feel sickened

"And today it has been reported that the country's special envoy to the US was subsequently executed, along with four other officials in the foreign ministry"

"Prof Blaxland said the killing reinforced the view that any hope of denuclearising the Korean peninsula peacefully was "a pipe dream".

Dr Davis, a Senior Analyst in Defence Strategy and Capability at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, said reports of the execution showed the utter ruthlessness of Kim Jong-un.
"He did feed his uncle to dogs after all – and the sort of individual that the US is negotiating with," Dr Davis said.

    What the .... ?

Donald Trump promises Kim Jong Un he'd never let his half-brother work with the CIA

"President Donald Trump has vowed he would never have allowed North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un's half-brother to have been used as a CIA informant in response to recent reports that the since-assassinated Kim Jong Nam was in contact with U.S. intelligence.

Trump told reporters Tuesday that he "just received a beautiful letter from Kim Jong Un"

Note that this thread, being about North and South Korea - is not subject to the new ban on discussions about US politics and Trump.

However, this thread must not be allowed to become a proxy for those discussions - I expect posts to be strictly on topic.
