    Hello,

One of our tenants has requested the local council green bin.

We are wondering if many owners of rental homes order the green bin from their local council for tenants? We have been told by our PM that the establishment fee ($30) and quarterly charges ($20/quarter) are the responsibility of the owner and not the tenants.

While this is not a legal requirement, I thought it strange that the owner pays for this service. The tenants have only moved in ~3 months ago and never mentioned it at the time of signing the lease.

    Thoughts?

    Many thanks.

So you wish to discourage your tenants from looking after the lawns and gardens? Or fill up their bin and landfill?

Where abouts is the property? That sounds high.

They charge a once off 65 I think here with no ongoing cost.

I'd definitely do it. As Scott said, enable them to maintain gardens.

That works out to just over $1/week. I'm not sure why you wouldn't do it

We had new tenants ask for this, and we agreed and ordered it that day. It is a small cost and clearly they want to keep the gardens tidy. Win/win.

Save ya coin, tell the tenants to dump their grass in the stormwater drain!

That is what we are talking about. Every house has a rubbish bin, a recycling bin and now there is a third green bin available for a small cost.

Ok cool. We dont have the third bin option but maybe we do and I dont know about it?

Councils do a once a year greens collection where you leave it on the verge. Same as bulk rubbish collection and whole cash industries have spawned from it.

Depends which council you are in here @Colin Rice . In City of Stirling all houses get one but villas/townhouses don't as they don't generate as much green waste. I think they can get one if they pay extra.

I have had one tenant request it and gave it to them. In Brisbance CC as well, and the house has quite a few palms which can be buggers to fit in to the normal trash.

Wouldn't want to be your tenant. This isn't rocket science.
