It is an under powered system, but depends what you use it for.

I'm guessing you have the big screen cloned off the lappy? Using a lot of resources that way, slows it down, especially with only 2gb ram.

Plug a keyboard into the lappy (cord or wireless).
Go into power settings, Set the lappy to not go to sleep or power off when the lid is closed, close lid and move lappy to one side out of the way, now just use big screen, keyboard & mouse.
Go into display settings, Set the big screen as the main display (not cloned or extended)

I use an old lappy this way on my 65" plasma & hifi for streaming online movies, music etc, lappy & tv goes to sleep until I click mouse button to wake it up.

I am typing this on an 8 year old laptop with a core 2 duo 1.4GHz running Win 10.
I am running 3 GB ram but the big difference is the drive - I have whacked a $70 SSD in there - and it flies. I run some pretty heave software on it and goes ok.

Much of the "waiting time" for laptops can be waiting for the disk read/write.

Worth looking at if it has a "normal" form factor drive.

Yep, great way to go, makes a huge difference to boot up time vs old mechanical drives.
However, from experience people don't like to spend money on something they feel should work efficiently straight out of the box, even though they purchased the cheapest option.
Their usually to scarred to upgrade anything themselves, or trust a friend to do it for them, because their worried they'll end up with no computer, or it won't work as good as it does now (as ****** as that is) so they have costs for install etc from a tech, comes with warranty etc, but bork at the costs involved, only using tech services if the thing won't turn on at all, no internet etc.

    80% of the time Chrome

    15% IE

    5% Fire fox.

Firefox was my #1 browser for a long time and it was good. Then it went real slow. I tried everything to improve it, updates, uninstall/reinstall etc but to no avail.

I then went to Chrome and when that played up I went to IE.

On odd occasions I still use Firefox.

Mainly just research, domain.com etc. Very little youtube or videos.

Yes that's right. Didn't know that it was a drain on resources.

    Will give this a go.

Add this to Chrome (also avail for FF) its a program that will block all that crap (sorry Simon)
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/******-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en

I'm guessing it was the old 32bit version, its now also 64bit, which is what your system is I'm guessing.
I was originally FF but switched to Chrome years ago, switched back to FF when 64bit was released, seems ok atm. I don't like IE because its limited(one word for it)
How to switch from 32-bit to 64-bit Firefox | Firefox Help

Also as someone else mentioned earlier, as is too many icons and folders on your desktop, there all using resources, keep it clean as possible.
Use the start menu to start programs, put folders in My Documents, use short cut to access them.

If I am reading it correctly the WD3200LPVX is a 2.5" format drive - it's quite slow (5400RPM compared to 7200rpm these days)

    I use
Kingston SSDNow A400 120GB SSD [SA400S37/120G] : PC Case Gear

Seeing as you have 200gb to spare, a 120GB drive should be fine.
(store other stuff on USB key etc)

You'll need to rebuild the machine tho (reinstall windows etc)

Also, for any other noobs reading this, pain in the ass remembering all those log-in details, including passwords, for all those different sites you visit hey? (including banks)

Sure, your browser will remember them for you, if you let it, but how safe it that, its a browser connecting to everything you search etc.

    Delete & stop permissions in your browser, use this ;
Chrome - LastPass: Free Password Manager
FireFox - LastPass Password Manager – Add-ons for Firefox
Not sure if its available for IE, I won't ever go to their site.

While on browsers, if you can't get your head around security/privacy settings etc, or spend time researching, Dragon browsers (and some of their other products) can be a good solution (might prevent you from watching porn tho)

Datto, the Casio FX-100 (or is it an 85?) begs the question that you could be resitting at least a maths and physics HSC exam?

Alternatively, looking at the table cover design, is it assisting in a new entrepreneurial fashion pursuit?

The one at the front is a Casio DS-1800S

At the back we have a Gavao brand GA-833-12 (inoperable)

Ah it's ah um the first thing I could grab to cover the storage chest box. Yes, I'm using a chest storage box as a computer table.

    What the blazes:

Don't ask. It just popped up on the screen lol.

Casio has certainly come a long way.

Um, well, and at least your tomatoes are doing well.

Heck no. There not mine. They're a legitimate investment strategy being advertised here on PC. You just google something and the next thing it comes up as an ad.

I have to admit though, they do look rather healthy.
