The issue is that as soon as the SP4 is connected to my wifi, it slows down so much that it won't even load internet pages. Using firefox. Not only that, but while it's connected to the wifi everything else that's connected also slows completely down - my phone, my laptop etc. it's not the internet, as it happens when I change to my phone hotspot too.
If it was just installing updates I don't think this would be the case?

I have tried to restore it to factory settings to try again, but it's been frozen at 7% for the last 2 hours. Something seems not right about it - should I take it back? @Dan Donoghue @Peter_Tersteeg

That's not normal behaviour, the Quality of Service packet handling is set to 20% in Windows 10. No matter what, your computer should not degrade other devices on the network (the computer should cap to using 80% of the bandwidth).

A frozen factory restore concerns me too, how hot is it getting?

I think a trip back to the store may be the best solution, this is not what I would consider "normal" behaviour or user misunderstanding so the easiest conclusion would be a device error.

It's unfrozen now but still super slow. It's not 'hot' but definitely warm.

I read somewhere that restoring to factory settings can take up to 12 hours in some cases. I did once have a similar problem though and I returned it for an exchange.

Hi @Jess Peletier did you find out what the problem was with yours going so slow?

No - I just reset the whole thing and started again - and employed someone to come and set it all up for me ;) I'd wasted enough time and was sick of it by then!

Around the time you posted this I asked in a chatroom full of software developers (to prove a point) who uses a Surface Pro ... I think it was over 80% said yes.

Of course, none of them paid for it themselves - seems to have become standard corporate issue laptop for software developers.

Really enjoying my surface pro 4 and yes, could have waited for the surface pro 5 but couldn't wait. Really enjoying the device and using the pen.

Update - I don't love mine much anymore. It's super convenient, but also find it really buggy. Chrome, excel, file manager, adobe crash/freeze on a regular basis and it's starting to drive me a little nuts.

Hmm. Although I'm tempted I won't say anything about little nuts.

Pro. It's not an Apple product :p Never understand why people like apple. All the hassle of ITunes, just to copy a damn file over. Apple proprietory crap. At least the others keep largely to the industry standards.

Anyway, glad you joined the other side.

This is not normal behaviour, I would imagine it to be a corrupt sector in your RAM or on the HDD where the virtual memory is written. I would consider taking it back, you have had continued problems with this.

I still use a surface pro 3 for work - pretty happy as it runs Outlook, Visio, Word and Excel reasonably happily at the same time. I have it attached to two external monitors and use the screen as a third. The main negative so far is that I hardly use the touch screen at all so it's wasted!

Edit: and I don't like the 15s+ startup time. For that, and mindmapping, give me my iPad Air every time!

I like that some Schools are going 'Google' rather than 'Apple'
