I purchased a sizeable amount of STO in Jan of 2016 for around $2.80 and have done well since then.

I'm looking for an exit point. Those who are TA inclined, any advice when/ how to exit?

I don't see any major volume dumping at highs Screenshot_20191204-125342.png maybe except for one near the peak..and wondering if there's still slot more steam on this ride..? Incline looks steady and healthy too, coming off a consolidation double bottom on high volume absorption. No break in advancing trend line either. Total amateur here though.

Its meeting a lot of resistance at 8.20 and cant get over it (and stay over).
Looking toppy to me since late Oct and with stocks on the nose now is a good time IMHO.
Take some (or all) off the table now while you can and buy back in cheaper later on.
Profit is the name of the game is it not?

No advice, do your own research.

    Thinking similar...

Although if it can get past that $11 resistance... could keep going abit. I might take 20% off. And put a sell order if it significantly breaks this upward trend line.

Made a gap on the daily, weekly & monthly charts exactly 5 years ago at 8.79 on the way down. That will need filling one day.
However, there are plenty of gaps on the daily charts below here so take your pick ? DYOR

Back in Feb last last year I put about 600 into ETFS/lics. But prior to that in 2016 I put about 120k directly into STO after it had its massive decline. The fixed shares I don't touch. But I have 2 shares I invest directly in. Sto and and Newcrest. Bought Newcrest at about $20.74 130k worth.

Not a large portfolio. I 'gamble' with my two stocks only. When I sell I'll buy 2 more. 2 is easy to manage.

Short answer, yes, it's a pretty good spot to take some profit.

since you gamble/flip as per mining shares i am sure you know its a cyclical stock. personal if you think its peak, i would sell or trim,

as its not part of a "portfolio"

    From SMH Markets live:

Santos finding plenty of tailwinds today

Helped by a surge in crude oil prices on Wednesday, Santos shares have been near the top of the leader board throughout Thursday’s trading session.

A price target upgrade from Macquarie on the back is also providing the energy heavyweight with a tailwind.

“STO continues to expand its production profile while at the same time driving down costs. The upgrade to production targets of 120mmboe by 2025 is positive but would be contingent on conversion of its opportunity pipeline and strong volume growth from Dorado and the Cooper Basin,” Macquarie said in a note.

On the back of an expected “substantial” increase in earnings per share from FY2022 and beyond, Macquarie has lifted its price target for Santos by 4 per cent to $9.00 while retaining an outperform rating.

Santos shares are up 4.4 per cent to $8.15 today.

I'm thinking to take only 10% off and leave the rest. The adrenaline is addictive, if I'm to be honest. It really is fun.

By what youve posted above you only need sell 14,800 shares to get your original investment back then you are riding free carried 28000 shares! Of course thats adictive!

Then wack that $120k back into WES as you mentioned earlier.

That is about correct. I was thinking to do just that. I just may. I'll wait for Wes to have a pullback.

Wanting to take 10% off and put it on Wes... but then I need to watch and 'manage' 3 stocks...my rule was 2. Knowing me I'll just leave it all in untill I reach my profit target and sell or it breaks the trend line and sell.

    Good for you !
You sold for profit, nothing wrong with that.
Now got an interest in another wonderful blue chip Aussie stock.
    What’s not to like?

Well WES had 5 years of consolidating a tight base and only 1 year or so of its mark up so my wishful thinking guess is that the institutional players aren't finished with it being pumped higher after a 5 year build up. Hopefully my crystal ball gets it right(ish).

This thread is the most exciting one I've read for awhile, actual numbers, taking profits, with a little timing/gambling thrown in. What's not to like!

I can only imagine what its like to pull your original stake and then start playing with "house" money :) Have done it a few times, yet only on sportsbet and ironically ended up giving it all back..
