Stay safe and lets hope it goes the other way if it isn't out quickly.

ABC News advises Hume Highyway is now open. Was closed due to fire at Sutton.

Kings Highway between Baidwood and the cost is closed - until further notice it appears.

    Take care @geoffw

    Thanks @SatayKing .

Yes, King's Highway is going to be closed for at least a month - damage to the highway as well as danger from burnt trees.

The fire which was close has been contained. For now.

Phew. Hope it stays that way.

Temp has dropped here, dust gone but replaced by thick smoke from Currowan fire. Hard to see 200 meters.

However it's nothing compared with what the folks right in the midst of the fire areas are going through.

Air quality in Canberra, depending on which area, is between 10 to 15 times normal hazard levels.

Gone into lock down so cabin fever is likely to take hold.

We had "equal to 36 cigarettes a day" for several weeks in December ... developed quite a smokers cough that has fortunately cleared up

Pretty dire situation on the NSW South coast.
More hot weather expected over the coming weekend.

State of emergency now declared ... and understandable. Please take no risks.

Only problem with that is, once a state of emergency is issued, travel insurance becomes defunct ... seems petty but we lost over $10k of income in December due to such

Undoubtedly. Another 350,000 people continue to live and breathe bad air without Keeling over.

Though I'm not even sure of the reliability of the report. The New Daily isn't a publication I'm much aware of; the only other report I can find quotes the New Daily.

Don't tell litigation specialists that. They'd starve should that reasoning be applied.:)

Not heard of The New Daily before seeing your link. ABC didn't mention it but there has been other serious matters on the go right now.

Actually, the second part of the link says "New Daily Woman dies". So perhaps that's why it's not widely reported.

The paper is owned by super funds according to Wikipedia. The editor is a former Murdoch editor.

Thanks @ellejay ! Hi @Sackie I am not quite that far down, we are in the Shoalhaven but yes the fires have been pretty radical locally and further south of course. 2 weeks ago it was us, and then in Conjola and Batemans Bay these last few days. We have friends who have lost homes and family members. Highway cut, power outages, internet and phone reception down, locals have been feeding and housing all the tourist families from the road overnight as they were just gridlocked. We had 3 families at our place last night - 14 plus pets. A lady was buying shopping trolly full of stuff and just walking up and down the road feeding people. Amazing behaviour. Tomorrow is supposed to be bad weather (hot and windy) so nearly all tourists have been evacuated. Family and friends in Sydney are going a bit nuts asking us to leave but the highway isn't much chop in a fire so we are staying for now. The car is packed and we can just head to the beach if things get too spicy - it is only a few hundred mtrs away.

Air quality in the ACT is back to the worst in the world again. It wasn't too bad during the day, but the smoke rolled in later in the evening.

    Screenshot_2020-01-05-08-06-55-21~2.png

This is on top of the hottest ever recorded temperature for Canberra yesterday (43.5ºC, breaking the old record of 42.8ºC).
