Buddhism looks pretty good about now

    5 minute intro

    Is Buddhism a Religion?

To many, Buddhism goes beyond religion and is more of a philosophy or 'way of life'. It is a philosophy because philosophy 'means love of wisdom' and the Buddhist path can be summed up as:

    (1) to lead a moral life,
    (2) to be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and
    (3) to develop wisdom and understanding.

    Belittle and mock others BELIEFS.

This is not some disability these people were born with. We arent going around saying "Hey check out the stupid deaf kid".

Athiest's mock and make fun of stupid beliefs because they are stupid and logic doesn't work.

Its your right to hold a stupid belief. But it is not your right to be above ridicule because you claim your belief is sacred.

Jokes can hold a mirror up to beliefs and reflect their most absurd characteristics. Jokes are powerful. They can also be exceptionally critical. They are a tool.

And please note that the person you quoted personally insults a whole group of people, now thats personal insults... not a criticism of a belief they hold.

"self righteous, smug, annoying, pains in the backside."

Do you see why thats not okay? See the difference between saying for example all muslims are "self righteous, smug, annoying, pains in the backside." And an atheist making a joke about them claiming to be a religion of peace when the reality is very different?

"Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself, into improvement.

So I have a chance of understanding the fluff you just wrote, before I reply. Can you please:

    -Define "higher truth"
-Post your evidence that supports that everyone is seeking this "higher truth"
-Post your evidence that demonstrates that religion is an effective "tool" for seeking knowledge
-Also please post why methods of seeking knowledge shouldn't be "judged" or critically evaluated.

Hi @Xenia, I agree. They're on their own path; some still on the path of ignorance. Who is anyone else to judge the beliefs of others? There are many wonderful 'religious' people who have served humanity a hell of a lot more than some of the dodos around here. Mother Theresa is a case in point.
