This is something that should have already been done, or at least a half decent freeway, esp now seeing they are selling off, or sold off most of the productive areas around Syd.

But not for the sole reason of selling more of your bloated milking cows :)

You're not going to like my quest to change the 5/2 working week to 2/5,

    • Give each person $5k (as a little bit of QE)
    • bring back penalty rates (they won't get repealed again).
    • Close the Galilea Basin.
    • Sign a contract for enough solar in the desert to power Australia and extend the "N"EM (National Electricity Market) to include WA. Sign contracts for offshore wind in south west WA.
    • Build bullet train from Brisbane to Adelaide.
    • List a whole lot of land as national parks.
    • Ban live exports.
    • Increase taxes on cigarettes, alcohol, dairy and meat.
    • Get rid of state based land tax and introduce a national land tax.
    • Massively increase skilled migration to regional areas.
    • Approve voluntary euthanasia
    • Decrimialise all drugs
    • Increase money for drug dependency
    • End fuel excise exemption for miners
    • Sign contracts for direct potable reuse everywhere (turning wastewater into drinking water)
    • Build segregated cycle paths
    • Decrease government support for private schools
    • End charity status of religions
    • Increase public transport spending
    • Spend $2.2b on stadiums (just kidding)

I suspect you may be better to increase money to reduce drug dependency ;-)

As long as it was big/strong enough to ensure they can never escape, I’d fully support it.

All depends on the perspective. A wall can be built to keep other buggers out or maybe to keep them in.

Let's just ignore the reality that W.A. has been a mendicant state since federation.

    I like your list Spludgey!
but would tweak the following to read.....
    Give each person their:
12 month super contribution they would otherwise have been forced to sock away instead. Thus we have proportionate quant easing of thier own money instead of a random amount like Rudds effort in the GFC.

    Ban live exports:
no, this is an important part of our economy. I also think its important to account/respect for third world limited access to electricity or cultural/dietary values. increase penalties for animal cruelty tho.

    Increase taxes on:
all Items via the GST. a proportionate consumption tax.

and I would add. Go nuclear.

    1. Increase the GST to 15%
    2. Lower the company tax rate to 15%
    3. Lower the top marginal tax bracket to no more than 40%
    4. Include the family home in the pension asset test and the pension should be only there for the destitute, not those with hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars in net worth.
    5. Raise the pension age to 70 immediately
    6. Limit/abolish local government and remove planning from their remit immediately
    7. Set a renewable energy target of at least 50% by 2030.

Oh, it's definitely to keep them from infecting the rest of Australia with their Victorian ways.

What's all this about building a wall to protect the country from the people across the southern border? Doesn't this sound familiar?

    We don't need nuclear weapons.
Nuclear proliferation is actually the main reason that countries have nuclear power.
Why else would you want it? Have a look at Hinkley Point C, from approval to them turning it on, it will take around 20 years! Not only that, but the economics just don't stack up. Its electricity is going to be more than twice as much as solar or wind power, even if you include storage for those.
Plus, those costs aren't actually the real costs. Insurers generally won't insure nuclear power plants, that's why governments insure it. If you included the cost of insurance, then this price would rise. However, what would really make the actual price skyrocket, is if you included safe storage of the spent fuel for 10,000 years as well as decommissioning of the plant. These things would probably make it an order of magnitude more expensive than renewable alternatives.

(I work in an energy sector related field)

As a socialist, I disagree with this. Why should the rich be rewarded twice? Plus for poor people, it would have a negative impact on their retirement savings, increasing their reliance on the pension.
If you just give everyone free money, there's a bit of forced inflation.

So ignore suffering of animals because we make money from it and don't want to tell others that we should reduce the suffering of animals?
Plus, I don't think that you can impose any penalties for atrocities committed once the ship leaves Australian waters, but I'm not a lawyer.
