Isaac Newton was by most accounts a complete dick. Fantastically brilliant, but a dick nevertheless.
There are corroborating accounts of his arrogance, however one statement that seemed to go against this is his famous "standing on the shoulders of giants" quote and that's what I want to talk about.
Newton could not have invented calculus (for example), had it not been for the giants that came before him.

Similarly, I think in our egotistical society, we often like to embellish our own achievements and diminish those of others.
My thesis is that there is no such thing as a self-made millionaires.
Like many here, I'm what many people would commonly refer to as a self-made millionaire, however there's no way I could have achieved this without having met the right people at the right time, without ready access to borrowing money, without learning financial literacy, etc.

Sure, we did a lot of work to get where we are, but we could not have done so without a system in place that allowed for this success, and in many instances even supported it.

I don't frequently find myself agreeing with Republicans, but Arnie has some great insights!
