Damage repair to property (by storm)- $1270
    Excess (insurance) is $1000.
Should I claim? $270 is still money
Will premium go up after claiming? Terri Scheer said no- is it true?

Your premium may not go up, but if you change insurance companies you have to give details of claims in the previous xxx years (period varies between companies).

For that sort of money one would think no..I have just paid a few landlord insurance payment..
The one item i noticed was all now have the % increase in the quote costs in the top r/h of the bill, the lowest was 16 percent rise ,just one of the costs of a contact sport like property-investing..

One benefit of insurers is they may send a specialist building company to manage the quote + repair and provide a long term warranty and they will project manage the whole thing inhouse. I'm doing this now with NRMA and they will and they will first send a assessor to quote it all and then send a sparkie to disconnect power to ceiling (and reconnect), tradies to re-gyprock and finish and repaint. All in one day. More reliable than self managing individual trades too.
