I was browsing the Whirlpool property forum, and someone shared a link to this apartment for sale in Dandenong, Victoria.

    https://www.domain.com.au/1-16-stud-road-dandenong-vic-3175-2017591828

It's advertised with a rumpus room:

But if you look at the actual photo of that room:

Looks like an unapproved extension to me - looking at the flooring, the ceiling, the wiring...

    Mind you, for $260,000 - $285,000...

Anyone else seen anything like this in their travels?

That space might actually be common property not part of the unit.

The text of the ad is hilarious - it’s on a major road and the ad uses the term ‘delighted by the serenity’!

RE agents stretching it a bit to class it a rumpus room as its not under the same roof as house
    more like an enclosed "lean-to"
it probably started out as an "awning" and then they enclosed it
extension power leads wrapped around the steel roof trusses
    rugs over the concrete path

Anything described as 'teenagers' retreat' is an unapproved basement.

Wonder how quickly council acted. Cant believe the agent even allowed their logo on that picture.

    Editorial...

Charming charecter fill family home. May appeal to DIY renovators to fix its dilapidated condition which fails to comply with building code or council approvals. The hand cut patches of carpet thrown onto the outside pavers are well complemented by a jerry built ply and kindling ceiling with stunning lighting provided from a powerboard. Slight leaks down the crudely built walls indicate some plumbing may need to be considered. The serenity of this wonderful home based office comes from the absence of any insulation or acoustic properties afforded by solid walls so the pleasant sound of insects and birds and the breeze fill the room on days when it isnt sunny and hot or raining.. The property appears uuniformly maintained from the front door to rear. May suit a bobcat operator.

All the aircons in the new er.. "project" had all the power wires connected and fastened with masking tape!

Got the electrician round who spent a day on the place. As he was finishing the job he said "well at least this house won't kill anyone now .."
