Just had a call from 0475 406 925 with some dude (Australian accent) on about an info pack having been sent out to everybody with a $50 voucher. I wasn't really paying attention as he caught me in the middle of other things.

I was expecting a call back from someone re info I had requested, but had expected a SMS rather than call.Would have been more alert otherwise. When I finally gave the caller more attention he again asked whether I had received my info pack at which point I said 'I have no idea what you are on about' and he promptly hung up.

Looked up the number on reverse australia and defiantly a scam

Eek! Last one I had asked some innocent enough questions so I played along. It went like this:
Are you paying off your home? No
Oh, so you are renting then? No
Oh, you must be living with your parents? No
Well where do you live then?

At that point I just wanted to say hey, that's really none of your business! Or, where do you live mate? But I settled for the polite 'that's not the type of information I would disclose to a stranger over the phone'. He said ok, and hung up.

Next time I want to say 'I would really like to answer your questions but first I need to know: are you taking any prescription medications?' That should be a laugh! :)

Haha. I keep getting calls from some (dodgey) solar power company.

Last time I played along and made out I was interested. When he was finished giving me the spiel, he asked me what I thought.

I told I would take it up with my landlord. He asked if I rented. I told him that I did and my landlord was a tight ass. He hung up.

Kieran, we use the standard line that our building has a DA approved and it's going to be demolished.

The call doesnt last very long after that...

Had some friends up at weekender and they got a scam callwhich has been going around where they ring up pretending to be from someone like Telstra saying there's a problem with your computer ( or something like that ) . He let them go on for a while and they kept on say we'll need to get you to reboot your computer . He ignored this for a while but then finally said , I don't have a computer ( he does ) then they hung up on him .

I still get an occasional call (used to get regular ones) from "Windows Technical Support".

I do a similar thing and let them rave on for some time while I think up a good one liner to make them hang up (my ultimate goal and measure of success).

    Two recent one-liners were:

    1. "I have a farm of 1,000 servers here. Which computer is causing the issue?"

    2. "The front of my laptop has the word:
    A - P - P - L - E"

I just ask them to hang on a second whilst I take something off the stove.

They are never there when I come back 5 mins later.

    @Perthguy your quite patient.

I am not sensitive with these types at all, for various reasons,
just end the call on them.

Sometimes it's fun to wind them up. Other times I just put the phone down without hanging up! :D

Yeah, one of my friends does this, he listens, asks some key questions, asks them to hang on, comes back & generally keeps them on the phone for as long as possible. That is ok for him, when he finishes work he is just killing time till next work day, I see no point in wasting that time.

If I say anything, it is to not call again, otherwise, nothing :)

I had one call up and tell me they were looking at my computer right now and it wasn't secure. I said 'really? if you can see my computer you would know what operating system I am running'. The response was 'oh yes sir, I can see you are running the Microsoft Windows'. I was running Ubuntu! I told the bloke I was running Ubuntu and hung up on him.

As soon as I realise its a scam, or salesperson, I politely say "not interested". If they repeat call then I give them a bit of a serve. Unfortunately, the last one I did this to was a legit call from the ATO.

The one that's really annoying me atm is, apparently, my emails have been hacked by a "bot" - despite me not opening any suspicious emails and having two virus scanners on my computer - so Telstra have prevented me from sending any emails. Looking on crowdsupport, this is a common problem which Telstra has no idea how to solve. I've done everything suggested to no avail, which is a pain as I've had my email address for 30 years and don't want to change it. I'll keep trying.
