please can you give me all hints re saving money on a kitchen bathroom renovation that may be wooden original 1960s kitchen
They r both small and it's a very small apartment to rent in an OK area that doesn't yield much rent so isn't worth over capitalising
    Thank you

Speaking from the perspective of recently doing a bathroom Reno...Source all the materials for yourself, do you have contacts that are tradies? Strip and demo yourself to save $$$, are you tiling floor to ceiling? A shower can cost $500 for supply and install, or it can cost $5000 or in between. Search for places that have it on the cheap (but have a solid rep). Ask for discount if you buy everything from same store (this is price of toilet? What's new price if I buy shower, vanity, mirror, towel rail, toilet etc).

If there's stairs, people will quote for stairs (tiler gotta carry up the sand etc, at least make sure the tiles are up, try to make it as easy for them as possible and have it acknowledged when quoted).

As for kitchen, some have had luck with buying kitchens off gumtree, although flatpack from ikea/Bunnings could be the go.

Rather than speculating we can provide better advice if you upload some photos taken from different angles.

Moving plumbing can be expensive. If it is possible, keep drains etc in the same location. Probably best and easiest to keep plumbing and stove etc where they are and renew around them.

First question would be does it really need a renovation? If it's not going to yield much rent then is spending money on it going to increase it enough to make it worthwhile?

    - With kitchens is the base/carcass is in good shape and regular sized doors you can replace the doors for a new look and then put on a new benchtop.
    - If the wooden kitchen is quite nice still then you can paint and put more modern handles on for an instant refresh. Again a new benchtop might go a long way - ikea and bunnings do them very reasonably
    - bathrooms are expensive due to waterproofing, screeding and tiling. If you can get away with keeping your tiles then it's not a bad idea and updating the vanity and using a prefab shower stall

As per @Marg4000 don't move plumbing

If the tiles are sound/not drummy respray the walls. Floor can be relaid if necessary

    Respray bathtub.

New fixtures and fittings including floor waste.

Get cut to measure bench tops from Bunnings or Ikea and if the carcase is in good condition get new malimine doors made up at a local cabinet maker.

Some photos would be great to give feedback on what needs to be done. As mentioned, it may need a refresh or a complete ripout. Also if you want to let people know where it is you may get some leads for suppliers.
