    According to this news.com.au article LJ Hooker has trademarked the term “rentvestor”.

    I know absolutely nothing about trademarks and IP law but I'm surprised that this would be possible - I wouldn't have thought it possible to trademark a term in common parlance.

    Rentvestor is just a label or slogan.

    What's sad is that people are gullible to follow a marketing slogan that people have been doing for decades.

    I'll trademark "rentovator" and "rentovation".

    This sort of thing really highlights how badly the general Australian public is educated on financial matters. Her immediate reaction is that this can't possibly work, his response is that it's an excellent way for people to live an expensive location and still own where it's affordable for them. He can't seem to convince her that it's a viable strategy.

    The comments below the article only reinforce this observation about the lack of education in the general public.

    Same as Barry Plant has TM 'Sale by Set Date'.

    Source:
    Selling - Barry Plant

    Extract;
    METHODS OF SALE
    There are four main methods used by Barry Plant for selling property – including our exclusive Sale by SET DATE®. All of these methods have merit, but there are some important issues such as the type of property , competition in the marketplace and the state of the market which should be considered before a final decision is made by you – in consultation with the agent – as to the method of sale to be employed. However, the most important thing is for you to feel totally comfortable with the method of sale to be employed to sell your property.

    Trade mark registrations can be revoked if it can be proven that the word or phrase has become descriptive. They'd have buckleys in successfully suing for trade mark infringement so having the registration would be pointless now anyway.

    I thought her point was that anyone rentvesting out of Sydney from a few years back will have missed out on the Syd growth. Which is right, but hard to argue at the awesomeness of the Kochie
