I've recently switched to a new agent and while going through the statements for the old agent, I noticed they have forgotten to collect one month of rent. It's over a year ago, is it too late to chase up now?

    Probably.

Lesson: Check rental statements every month, and also check the correct amount has appeared in your bank account.

How did you miss this? Statements usually say paid up to xx/xxx.

Can you clarify what you mean by forgotten to collect a month of rent? They can't forget to collect a month of rent- that would mean the tenant is a month in arrears?

Sounds like you need to have a discussion with the old agent, and then let us all know how that panned out.

In this day and age, nobody really go and "collect" rent; rents are mostly paid thru bank transfer. Do you know how yours was done?

Since it's a year ago, I'd imagine the bond had been refunded. To do this, they ought to have checked that it's been fully paid? All software would highlight overdue rents so it's hard to miss. I suspect, and hope, that the rent had been paid by Tenants but somehow not allocated to your account...

I'm thinking the same as the others, check with your PM.

It's possibly been paid in the following month .

    Thanks all for that.

I’m still with the same tenant, only the agent has changed. Going to have a look at the statement again.

When the new agency took over, they would have inherited the existing ledger. So if agency didnt receipt one month, or tenant didnt pay one month, or whatever actually happened there, then that'd still be reflected in the current numbers.

So the real question is - Are they behind now? If not then perhaps you read it wrong or the tenant caught up. If so, then presumably they're going through their arrears process.
