    Also, if you need a little more storage and have room between island and stairs, you could add some shallow cabinets that open from that side and make the island wider.

    Only thing I would add is consider seperate main bathroom / wc (closer to current RHS plan) if being used by MIL & kids.
    Just gives the option for both to be used at the same time, Ie if person is having a shower, wc can still be used.
