Try not to make it a habit. I think that's the worst part and that's how things can get worse were when things go back to normal, you'll crave it partly physically due to Alcohol's addictive nature and partly mentally due to habit.

Also, i don't find it to be too bad if you give your body time to metabolize the drinks you have so if occasionally you have 4-5 drinks in say a long session, say 4-5 hours, i feel that it's not too bad.

Two weeks away from 12 months without touching a single drop, can't quite believe it if I'm honest.

I cracked at 5 1/2 months, being stuck inside 24 hours a day was too much. So starting again at day 1.

I was wondering how people were handling quarantine. Well done. Though I can understand @Casteller.

I'm about seven years sober or something.

Hey well done that went quick! If I can survive 5 weeks quarantine lockdown in the UK with 2 old people who start the cocktail hour earlier each day reckon I’m good for life

But you are starting which is a positive in my book. If from what you say you are not permitted to wander about maybe pour the stuff down the drain and only have an essential food list if you can go shopping. Alcohol is not essential in any way, shape or form - despite claims to the contrary from some sectors.

I have been hearing an increase in the clinking of bottles going into recycling bins around here. Not surprising some are drinking more. Could be creating issues now as well as long-term ones. Can only hope not.

As for me, luck is on my side. Not even a passing thought of having a drink. Others aren't me though.

    Good one @Propagate.

Is it merely a replacement of what they were drinking at the pubs & clubs or have they taken up the habit? Hospitals are noticing that there are fewer alcohol related injuries (other than PFO's).

I’m 3.5 months without a drop but 1st Year Wedding Anniversary tomorrow. We agreed we’d share a bottle of champagne but we’re both nervous as haven’t drank in so long and don’t want to ruin the joys of total sobriety.

Has anybody experienced drinking say 1 glass of wine or 1 beer but not getting drunk?

Good point. No idea to be honest. It could well be replacement.

Nevertheless, I'm still deciding whether I'll be a good citizen kind or not and keep peace with them. Very tempted to remove their bottles from my bin and place them out in a very artistic style from the back of their bin to their front door. Probably keep the peace.

    It can be difficult.

My problem was that once I started I couldn't stop. I tried cutting out most days, but after a bad hangover I decided that the only way I could do it was not to have any at all, any day.

    About seven years ago.

    Why not go non-alcoholic?

Or do dinner - celebration doesn’t have to include alcohol. :)

I've said it previously it's awesome when a person recognises the only solution to a major problem facing them and which impacts their lives as well as their family.

Probably not a great idea if I read correctly the underlying issue you are expressing. If both are nervous about then I think you likely both know the answer. It's now up to you and your partner to decide what is important.

The issue with my drinking was binge drinking when I went out.

Drank maybe 2-4 bottles per week at home.
Every fortnight, would go out and drink to excess. I’ve stopped that forever but still want to enjoy the taste of good quality wine and beer.

No one but you really knows if you can stop after one drink or not.
Be honest with yourself and if you think you can enjoy a drink without having the urge to binge drink than i would say go for it. On the other hand, if you have even a shred of doubt that you won't be able to stop or if you had issues controlling your drinking before, i would say keep away.
