I'm looking to improve a terrace house, it currently only has a carport, and I am looking to enclose this carport to be more of a garage.

My question is, firstly, I assume I would need a council approval, is this correct?
And what's the best way to handle this?
Should I get a builder and will they do all the council paperwork? or do I need an architect?
Lastly, could someone recommend the builder or tradie for this type of work?

The property is located near redfern/waterloo.

Any info would be helpful. Many thanks in advance!!!

Whilst I'm not the full bottle on your local gov rules (you'd have to check your local council) if the roof is approved you should be able to enclose it, put an auto door etc without issue

I've seen one just like this. The closing-in of the carport did not meet regulation due to fire issues. The solution was that the door from the carport into the dwelling had to be changed from a regular door to a solid door with an auto-closer on it.

If you are in the City of Sydney council (which I assume you are) you will most likely need approval. Why don't you call the council DA area? They are really helpful there and can give you better guidance than we can.

    Thanks for all the advice.
It does fall on city of sydney council. I might contact them. If it is allowed, any recommendation on builders or tradies to undertake this?

I'm so sorry you are in City of Sydney. Absolute nightmare of a Council.

Is your property heritage listed or a in a heritage conservation area?
