It is Rob Roy (not Roy Roy) Glacier that may help in finding it. It is about a 1 hour drive from Wanaka, we did it in our hired Corolla.

Weather wise can be a bit of a lottery but I would not think too hot at that stage. I would say somewhere in the low 20's.

OK so far broad strokes direction then i'll put more detail in.

Day 1: Stay at Queenstown and go south to Skippers canyon, do the Nomad Safari tour, look around SC and then head back to queenstown to hang out around there
Day 2, Head to Aarowtown for half a day then onto Wanaka via Crown range, zig zag Road and through historic Cardrona to get to Wanaka.
    Day 3, activities in Wanaka
    Day4: Head to Robroy
    Day 5, back to Queenstown

Please fix as you see fit.

I feel that this is a very good use of 5 days in that part of the world!!! You will have an amazing time and not too much travelling which can be annoying on short trips.

Great! OK, ill firm up some places/activities and repost to see if you guys reckon its all doable. So you recommend 2 days QT and 3 days Wanaka?

I would but that is purely personal. Queenstown is very international (you will barely see a New Zealander). Both places are naturally stunning. I like Wanaka as it has the much more relaxed mountain feel, similar to an upmarket Jindabyne.

I love Wanaka but it's very small. I think you'll find more to do in QT but I'm just going by what I picked up about your tastes. QT has more upmarket shops/restaurants. Do more research though and see what you think.

    Agree.

I would suggest 2 days Wanaka and 3 Queenstown.

Arrowtown is worth the bus trip,it's an old gold town good for a day ,
you can catch the bus from near the queenstown mall..
This is also in Arrowtown ,a very small school-building and if you look hard enough you can see where the leather ball have hit the ceiling when a small amount of students were in that classroom all those years ago..
    Mary MacKillop Cottage in Queenstown

This burger outlet is well worth the wait in the line-up ,and they line up day-night..
    FERGBURGER

This is also worth every kiwi dollar,if you can book a table right on the edge and you look all over Queenstown at night..
Stratosfare Restaurant & Bar | Skyline Queenstown

This is also worth the time,as it looks out over the lake and park that is also a good walking track..
    Botswana Butchery Queenstown

    imho..

Any great national parks or scenic drives that we can actually take the car through? so drive, snap, drive snap, drive snap etc etc. So we don't have to be on foot too much if we don't want to.

Would be great if Rob Roy Glacier had a driving route.
    Thanks

Glenorchy is beautiful and close by. Follow the road as far as Paradise which is worth while just for sitting and enjoying the views.

It's a huge day, but a drive into Milford Sound is doable from Queenstown. Fabulous scenery, time for a boat trip on the sound if you get an early start. Probably 3-4 hours each way.

Several National Parks within walking distance to central Queenstown,or you can walk up the gondola track all up hill..Easy going back down but the view the higher you walk up is priceless..imho..
