I saw it in my LinkedIn feed - always hard for a newcomer with a different concept to break into a market.

They entered the Sydney & Melbourne markets when they were hot and still couldn't make a go of it.

"everyone" whines about full services comms being too high.

fact is, across an industry, the end margins are actually damn skinny in real estate sales.

Its the same in broking, financial planning and many other service related industries where the fat looks good.............to the outsider, and the potential disruptor, when in reality on a mean margin, there aint no fat per se.

and obviously, since people are dealing with expensive and often sentimental products, there has to be a comfort factor that you get with a full service agency

They had been advertising really heavily on tv and radio over the last couple of months I noticed. I guess it was just a last ditch effort. Would have cost them a bomb though! CEO must have the purple sh!t5 today.

I think future future Uni students will be able to write essays on what they did wrong.

I think poor branding. It looked cheap to me.
Too cheap on initial pricing. It made me think they couldn't have done a good job selling your property. Maybe if they were 30% cheaper.

They got a few listings from what I could see around, but I'm guessing the bad word spreads pretty fast.

Happens every downturn though, agencies close and merge. If that happens to more traditional re's, then attempted disrupters have no chance..

I think a big factor was the payment up front, regardless of success.

Basically you were over paying to advertise your property. And hope that would be enough to sell it. Oh, and you’ve got 3months to sell!

They were advertising for a digital performance marketing manager (the ones bringing in hot leads from Facebook, Google antics) on Linkedin a few months back. Guess they had some talent gaps to accelerate their decline

It didn't help things when word got out that they were running an internal competition on which agent could get their owners to discount their price the most.

My property is still listed with Purple Bricks. Does anyone know if they can still trade, close contracts etc? The purple bricks agent contacted me yesterday telling me he can still sell.
Quick to point out that I was still up for the $4400 fee if I was to swap agents.
It was the first time I have heard from him in 3 weeks

Purple Bricks are terrible (from my experience)Poor advertising, marketing, no open homes for the first 3 weeks, no follow up calls. Everything emailed.

No photos where taken. They sourced outdated old photos for the realestae.com listing. These photos even had the logo from the previous real estate agent. The yard was a disgrace and could have been more well presented with a mow and tidy up to make it more appealing.

I have had 3 agents call since purple bricks made the announcement to get the listing so will now move to one of these. No call from the agent until yesterday so have really no faith in using him moving forward.

(The property is 8km from Brisbane CBD )

That is disgraceful, if he couldn't sell the property with Purple Bricks (and gave such poor service) what makes him think he can sell it now? I would look at your contract, who is the contract with? If it is Purple Bricks, and not the agent, I can't see why you can't go elsewhere.
