Had some carpenters in over the last 2 days to replace some internal doors which we wanted to replace due to a Reno in our PPOR..

So with 2 guys for 2 full days they have put up a total of 4 doors to a really poor standard(with these as well they haven't completed all the door hardware only hung them)

The gave me a fixed price quote to install 11 doors plus 5 smaller cupboard doors for $1650,just wondered what people think a fair price is for the works already completed would be taking into account some of the doors will need to be scrapped?

Will be giving them a call letting them know I don't want them to complete remaining doors..

    Nope registered carpenters...

When he quoted I asked weather he had experience in hanging doors as I wanted a really neat job as hanging doors has a fair bit of detail to get them spot on....which he answered yes

    Awkward situation unfortunately.
How can one qualified carpenter only manage to hang one single door in one whole day, without even fitting the handles and plates...

Hope it ends ok, you just don’t know how some people will react when basically told they suck.

We had 7 internal doors replaced a number of years ago, done by one bloke, pretty sure it was done in one day ,all new fittings and hinges.
    We done the painting.

My advice is don't pay for anything that isn’t installed properly.

But you probably need to give them the chance to fix up the ones already installed - if that is possible. Or at least have them suggest how they intend to fix them.

Don't let them start on the new ones before that.

What's wrong with the four they installed?

Something does not sound right,a 2 Man team one would think that 1 door per hours would be in line with quote..
Just have to ask were all the door frames level ,or did that section require extra work and why is the work poor standard range ?.A photo of the work may help to see the work performed..
You would want to get this sorted,as some trades people have a different idea with work standards and fair dealing and proper behaviour dealing with the public..

Spoke to the Carpenter this morning and discussed with him that the work he had done thus far wasn't up to standard and that I didn't want him to continue.
He actually took it pretty well as I think it would have taken him twice as long to finish them and in the end we would both have lost out of it..
With regards to payment we are still working what will be a far amount for the work already completed..

    sounds like a terrible experience.

but who will fix the mess they made, and who pays for it ? ( drilled holes on the door frames, damaged doors ...)

    Eric,

I have trades coming on Friday as we are updated our kitchen cupboards and bench top so I will ask him what can be salvaged and than discuss this with the Carpentar that installed the doors..

    Dear Coota

1.Anything they have not done properly does not warrant paying.
    2.Photograph their work.
3.Get a quote for a licensed tradesman to Make Good.
4Ask the first lot to make good.
4.Ask the first trades to pay up if they don't do it.
time to start showing your 'teeth' Barra Coota!
    I hope this helps
