Hi all, what's your opinion on buying properties close-ish to the Inland Rail track (around 300-400m)?

How far do noise, vibration and coal dust realistically travel?

What's the impact on future property value (including potential benefits and disadvantages)?

There has been talk to build a passenger station close by but nothing concrete yet.

Ah the ALP dreamer plan. If only they could win a election. A slow but dedicated inland route (one track with sidings) between one major centre and one other.. Its freight. Would have been good for cars being produced in Melbourne. Will be a boom for the Victoria wine producers to move cartons north to Brisbane for export to China. Meant to free up coastal route for passengers. Terrific the Sydney to Coffs run will take 11 hours not 14 v 6 in a car. And coal demand projections seem to all point south these days. But part of the line has a "no coal" rule initially which is a recognised concern. Understanding impacts - Inland Rail So noise, dust and vibration are all expected...and more horns and rail noise 24/7.
