On a positive note we will all get it and get over it in a few weeks and life will go back to normal (except for the 0.5% that die)

    • University Sector - ironically as a casual staff, I have landed extra hours beyond normal due to extra classes being offered over the winter semester for students who get left out this semester
    • My wife's work supplies medical and pharmaceutical lab equipment and consumables - suddenly a booming area of the economy, and continuing to be as development and production of vaccines etc goes on (and they don't import from China)
    • Supermarkets - stuff seems to be running off the shelves - probably going to see a spike in retail FMCG spending
    • The supermarket shopping spree is good obviously for shopping centres, although other facets such as cinemas are probably negatively affected. Food courts still seem quite busy.

I'll just keep taking their rent :D But that reminds me - the other positive this week - the share market movements have allowed me to buy into SCentres for the first time with 6%+ yield. I have now become the big enemy of small shopping strips having money in Scentres (most of you see under the Westfield banner) and Vicinity Centres (despite all that, I shop most often at a complex owned by the QIC of all things!!!!)

Well , most of the people. who die will be elderly , who may pass on their wealth to their kids who may spend it , giving a boost to the economy

I hope I'm just in recipient column , not the donor column...

Reduction in air pollution due to factory closures.

So that's got to be a positive?

The biggest potential I see is companies may consider/plan/action moving manufacturing and reliance on China back to their own countries.

I mean cheap labor versus business distraction surely now has to factor into any proper risk strategy now.

You may get a part in China for 1/5th the cost but if you can’t manufacture that part for 3 weeks then is the saving totally abolished?

I know the origin of a new threat could potentially happen anywhere but history shows us China appears to a big problem with starting and spreading disease.

NOW as for how this benefits us I’m not too sure. I mean creating local jobs is only a good thing! It just may mean we have to pay a bit more for some things but TBH I’m personally OK with that. I’m sure a striving economy will pay that back in other ways.

Oh and just solidifies Elon Musks vision.
I don’t think Coronavirus is going to wipe us out but someday something will!
Would be good when that happens to be an interplanetary species.

If SpaceX ever goes public, I’ll be loading up! :D

Short term. Long term "Okay, Houston, we've had have a problem here."

Larry Niven nailed it in a way but are we sure we wish to infect the universe with us?
